Could this be a costumed James Hall, who played a starring role in the WWI Hells Angels flick?

So, must be James Norman Hall also of fame as an author.(I believe "Mutiny on the Bounty" and the sequel, "_Pitcairn's Island"?)His co-author was Charles Nordhoff.
Far cry from my last effort, but Steven's generous clues force me to try just once more!
Cheers,
Lance

He has Slavic features, but he's not German... could he be from the 92nd Aero Squadron (Hat in Ring)?

With his hair parted down the middle he has a strong resemblance to Elliot William Chess.

Sorry, he was not with the 92nd or 94th. The pilot in the first post of this thread is wearing a British uniform.

This is great fun. I'm learning an awful lot about a subject I have never really paid much attention to.

Only problem is, I keep getting side-tracked. A search for the 'first"52"' lead me off into the history of the Avro 504!

Cheers and thanks for opening a new door for me.

Ask yourself, "the first 52 what?" He was an American so think about the first 52 Americans to what? To receive cadet training in Britain? He is wearing a British uniform and served in 56 RFC / RAF. Also, here is another bit of fun. His brother in the AEF was famous for his 1st victory. That may help you get the family name. Where in Britain were American cadets trained for officer & aircrew duties? Ask J.R.R.T. and the four picklehaublets.

I'll bet you'll revell in the high and empty. . .
