Did I stump Ya? Lets see he was a writer (2 books - one turned into a film), an aviator with 4 victories, his boasts were often empty, He was given money by the Chinese govt to purchase aircraft and spent it on "other things". He did time in a Federal Penitentiary (by the way it was closed on April 1, 2011). At times this Prison also held inmates like Robert Stroud, Charles Manson & Alvin Karpis. Later our mystery man worked for Twentieth Century Fox. Several years later he opened a toy factory and then died in 1948.

Has to be Bert Hall, Escadrille Americaine in 1916. Imposter, and to many liar and cheat, he is still listed as a Deserter from the French Air Service. He was imprisoned over the deal he had with the Chinese for aircraft that never arrived. (he spent the $ elsewhere)
Cheers,
Lance
Officially Retired as of 20 August 2013 and looking forward to some un-interrupted bench time. Currently starting Roden's Nieuport 28 and hoping to follow that with another WNW Fokker DVII.
