Um, too late now, but could you have filled the canopy gaps with a clear drying PVA like Elmers or Micro Sol's Krystal Klear?

I really never much cared for any type of PVA white glue to be used as a filler. It never really hardens, and it can shrink and crack over time with the change in temp and humidity.
Magnus, you've really got your hands full with getting all that glass to blend in.

I am planning on rivet decals to restore some lost detail.
As to the canopy..no...sigh...I have not gotten there yet.

Thanks Joel, hadn't thought about those factors. I've had fair luck with it on one plane so far. But that's been in the last 6 months.
I've had good luck with sanding and polishing canopies to match air-frames before, good luck with your adventure.

Mark, Joel and Shawn! It turned out better than I expected after some sanding and polishing.
Bare-metal foil and Micro-Mask to fill in the gaps...

Magnus, looks like you're getting ready for priming and painting. Looking forward to your update with pictures.

Magnus, et al.,
That night Lightning is coming along nicely. Whew, I don't remember it taking so much effort!
For future reference, BSI SUPER-GOLD CA can be used with clear parts without fogging. I used it on my Classic Airframes Finnish Buffalo.

Fred, I can sure use that CA for clear parts. What does BSI stand for, and who sells it?

Bob Smith Industries. It is often re-labeled by the individual hobby stores. Purple Label, black cap. Odor free, foam safe. Most of the RC shops have it. HobbyTown USA carries it, at least here locally.

Russ,
Thanks. I have two RC hobby shops in my town. Will ask both of them.

So after more than a week of standstill, this one erupted in a frenzy of activity tonight!
Canopy area was painted interior-green for a start...
...have I offered a parts-on-sticks photo yet in this thread? If not so, here it is. If I already have - never mind!
Tamiya rattlecan silver (out of the can of course!) as a primer coat, dried with a hairdryer...
...and then on to the black. From (another) rattlecan!
Once again the hairdryer...
...and then a start with the decals! I have noted the silvering on the numbers, will give it a dose of micro sol tonight!

Magnus, the black gloss paint job came out really nice. Hoping that the silvering issue becomes a thing of the past with another application of Micro Sol.

Good work Magnus. You just inspired me to put a double seater Lighning on the To do list.

Sorry friends, I have been in a dip aviation-wise lately. It simply doesn't pull my strudel for the time being (as they say in Austria???) . I've been on a rather bad armour-trip but I'll take up this one soon!

Magnus, Nothing wrong with building some armor. I was on a 3 yr. armor binge before the wingy thing got me again. Eventually, I'll be doing the occasional armor build.

Magnus,
Great Job!
Your build has inspired me to take mine out and attempt to finish it.
Here is a pic of the cockpit, I can't believe I did this back in the early 80's.
Cheers Rob.

Joel! Back again, time to finish this one now!
Rob! Sorry I didn't comment earlier: good work and I am glad to be of some inspiration!
Mal! Thanks!
And I've even made an avatar for this build now, inspiration in abundance !
I've used bare metal foil to make one of the natural metal areas around the supercharges, the other one to follow tonight. In order to bring some life to the black finish I went over it with a nail polisher that brought the hundreds of rivets into a silvery life. I am not sure that it is realistic but at least it isn't dull !
Finally, I found a Youtube clip here that is worth spending a few minutes watching.

Magnus,
Welcome back my friend. Nicely done with the Bare Metal Foil around those turbo chargers. I've never had much luck applying it without getting some wrinkles.

Joel! I think it's a practice thing ! Applied with care and burnished down carefully with a Q-tip wrinkles are usually avoidable. On the other hand, I usually stick to 1/72 and consequently apply smaller areas than this!
Wheels, landing gear (at least 2/3 of them!), anti-glare panel and even some tentative weathering! Should be possible to get this one finished during the coming week!
Props...

Terri and Joel! Thanks!
Just a small update to show it on its gear! Lead weights in the nacelles wasn't even close to enough, I had to cram the front gear well full of it as well!
