Well. It has been 95 Years today since the end of WWI and I feel its time for another thematic build as a small salute to pilots who fought in that horrible conflict. I had nothing special prepared and decided to do this on impulse. I puled out the Camel from Eduard as I think this is one of the best symbols of this war. I will be building the "Black Prince" colour scheme. I had no luck in finding any pictures of this particular aircraft, so if someone else has any, please feel free to post a link or to upload them.

Here is the build as done back in 2006.

Sopwith Camel F.1 B6212 with a Bentley BR. 1 150hp rotary was flown by Flt. Sub-Lt. W.A. Moyle of Sea plane Defense Squadron at St. Pol France in December 1917. This unit became 13N Sqdn RNAS by 15 January 1918. It was damaged on 19 February 1918 when flown by Flt. Sub-Lt. W. J. Mackenzie. Then repaired and sent to 203 RAF by 10 April 1918 where it was flown by an American, 1/Lt. W. W. Goodlow. Last recorded as being at Farnborough 30 June 1918.

Here. is the kit review. Good luck!

Thanks Stephen for the links and also the additional info on the Black Prince. I had only a few hours of spare time this week, so I made a little progress. So far I had no problems, but I expect some later on with the wing geometry. This will be out of the box with no rigging because I dont have the skills to do it.

This is the perfect kit to develop skills for rigging, since the pattern is fairly simple. If you don't want to do eyelets and loops you could just as easily drill right through the wings and rig that way.

Thank You Jessie for the encouragement, I will think about it as I make some progress. There are not that many WW1 planes I would like to (or had time to) built. Maybe the Dreidecker or some of the Junkers. We will see. So far I finished the cockpit and put the fuselage with the lower wing together. The fit is not 100 percent, and I will have to make some corrections here and there.

I had a few hours to spare so there was some work being done on the Camel. The interiour was finished, only the machine guns are missing. These will be added at the end of the build.

Hello Stephen, Thanks for the kind words. I was able to put some paint on during the hollidays, so this is what it looks like now. Im a bit dissapointed with the green colour, it was supposed to be more brownish, but Im not going to change it now. The black and blue were painted on with a brush, the rest was airbrushed.

Thank You John for the comment. The prop was painted with Valejo skin or sand tone colour I cant remember, and then it was drybrushed with oil colours red brown and dark brown. I finished the kit in the meanwhile. Surprisingly I had no issues with the fit of the struts. I suppose Eduard has corrected the infamous issue with number mixup in the instructions. In the end I decided not to try the riging. Im already experimenting with the EZ Line product, but Im not so confident as to try to rig this plane. Here are the pictures of the inished model taken two weeks ago.

Thank You Stephen and Jowady for the comments, and thanks for watching this. I know Im not as good with Great War planes as some other members here, but I hope I will have more time in the future to take on at least two or three other kits from this era.

No worries Naseby. We all started somewhere. We try to inspire each other. A well built model is the most we can hope for OOB. You have combined good building skills with adding depth with your colour applications. Model On!

This is inspiring me to put my P51s aside for awhile and build mine.

Thank You very much for the positive feedback. It is giving me more confidence in trying out other WWI plane subjects.
