Could it be James Norman Hall of the Lafayette escadrille, who later wrote "Mutiny on the Bounty"?

Hi Stephen
Our picture's "flipped" horizontally from at least one example elsewhere on the Internet (http://earlyaviators.com/erockkif.htm).
Are there any tell-tale details or insignia to determine which is correct?
All the best

Thinking about it, probably the tunic flap for the buttons is a good method.

Hi Stephen
Good point. Looking at the main buttons, I'm thinking our chap is "cross dressing"... (assuming the French followed British dress code - where's Jean-Luc when you need him! LOL!).
