September 1st this year marks the 75th Anniversary to the start of the Second World War.
I’d like to commemorate that day with a campaign for the Battle of the Atlantic. This first U-boat sinking was also on September 1st when the U-30 torpedoed the liner Athenia just hours after England declared war on Germany.
The campaign build will cover the dark early years of the Second World War's longest running campaign from 1939 to 1941. '
The main campaign site is over at Model Shipwrights here, but I wanted to extend an invitation to those who'd like to model the aircraft from The Battle of the Atlantic -Fleet Air Arm patrol and bomber aircraft or Kriegsmarine flying boats and float planes.
I'll have the campaign start on September 1st this year and go until April 30th 2015.
How about it?

The campaign has been slightly modified and approved in MSW.
The campaign will have three parts, any one can choose to build in (or go big and do one for all 3!)
The Early Years: 1939-1941
Happy Time: 1942-1943
Fighting the Losing Battle: 1944-1945
Sign up for the campaign is here.

Forgive me if I think you've got the titles for the 2nd and 3rd periods the wrong way round

Ah, yes, a matter of perspective I suppose.

Yes, I suppose it depends on whose side you were on.

OH boy, two threads, I'm sure to get lost. I'll bring an aeroplane to a sub fight... Academy 1/72 F4F in North Atlantic gray (grey?).

No, we gotcha Mark. This thread is just for fishing for some more aircraft builders. There's a link on the first post to this thread to take people to the MSW thread where you originally posted.

I read in one of my books that early in the war a patrol of ansons encountered some emils and the losses were 2-0... In favour of the annies! Is that true?

Have seen an excellent scratch built launcher and bow on another site. Would be a very cool project indeed

This would solve my "problem" of choosing to do either the Dornier Do-24T or the Sunderland for the Seaplanes campaign. Would do the Do for the Seaplanes and the Sunderland 1 for the Atlantic.

Astonishing! It does show what low airspeed could buy you. Reminds me Po-2 pilots could stymie attacking fighters by virtue of their stall speed being higher than the po-2's top speed! Could this be the story you mean?
