Hello,

I am going to post my progress here as i build the Eduard Fw 190 A-7.

I started work on the cockpit. I removed the molded on details on the side consoles, as i will use the pre painted Pe parts later.
I used the plastic foot pedals as i dont want to fiddle with the PE parts, since they are not that visible after i close the fuselage.

Sorry for the crappy pics but my camera gave up, so i have to use my phone for the time being.

More will follow

Some more work done.

I glued in the front fuselage pieces and gave the cockpit parts a quick coat of Gunze Mr surfacer 1000. It acts as a primer coat, but also reveals any flaws.

After this, i will paint the cockpit rlm 66.

More later

Tony, Nice start. Will be following along. Are you planning and extra detailing for your build?

Joel,

I am not going to do any extra detailing at all.
I am not even going to use all the PE that came with the kit, just the IP.
I dont like pe and pe for sure dont like me either.
As i always fully close up my planes, it does not bother me to much anyway.
I just try to get a decent finish and paintjob.

Thanks for having a look.

Well...what i did is this.
I took everything together and threw it in the bin.
This is really a lousy kit, poor fitting all around.
As i only build for fun and to relax, i really cant be bothered with this crappy kit.

Hey Tony,

Assume you're just joking right?
Anyway if you wanna throw it to the bin, I'm happy to send you my home adress and save you that

If you just wanna have a good time building up and painting, then go for their weekend range kits. No PE included and saves your money also.

Cheers

Pedro,

Not joking at all.
The kit has just to many fitting problems for me.
I dryfitted the fuselage halves and everything was ok.
But once i started adding the interior bits like cockpit and engine, nothing would line up nor fit.
Also the upper and lower wings did not allign at all due to the wing spar. All in all i am very dissapointed in their A range of the Fw 190.

Well now I'm sad too hear this Tony . I have built Eduards A-8 and the only fit issue was the gun deck . A bit of sanding on the sides of this part and every thing fit fine after that . I do hope that you retrieve the kit from the trash and see if folks can help you with the fit ...

Terri,

I did some research earlier on these kits and from what i read on the web is that either people say it all fits fine (like u) and some say (like me) that nothing seems to fit.
I dont know what went wrong, as i closely followed Eduards build instructions.
That said, the kit stays in the trash as i really dont want to spend the time nor energy, trying to fix all the problems i encountered. In my infinitive wisdom however, before i started this kit, I ordered 4 more of the Fw 190 A variants. They should arrive here sometime next week.
Maybe one day i give them a try again, but more likely they end up being traded or sold.

Tony

Eduard's Wurgers have the reputation of being very fiddly, and they were engineered to be displayed with everything open. If you want closed hatches you need to grind away some of the plastic inside to get them to stay flush. As long as you know this, everything will be good. But if you start the build unaware of their peculiarities, you may have an unpleasant experience, as you've just found out.

For a relaxing FW build I recommend the Tamiya kit

Jessica,

I indeed found that out the hard way.
I already build the Tamiya A-3.

I was hoping to build a few later A models, but Tamiya only does the 3.
How are the Hasegawa Wurgers?

They're not as hassle-free as the Tamiya, but they're much better than Eduard's. The trick to watch for with Hasegawa kits is because they put in so many optional inserts and parts to make all the different versions you need to be aware that the fit may need a little adjusting.

But don't despair. Tamiya makes an F8, A8 and D9 as well as your A3, and there are also simple little conversions for A4 and A5 variants available.

Jessica,

Thanks for the links, specially for the A-8.
The F-8 and D-9 are in my stash already.
Can u point me in the direction for the conversion sets?

"How are the Hasegawa Wurgers?"

Hasegawa makes a very reasonable kit, one that combines accurate profile and details with easy construction. I prefer them to Tamiya's A-3 or A-8 only due to their better landing gear size.

That said i still own a resin AM set to convert Tamiya A-3 into an A-4 that should be done fairly easy, problem is I no longer have any Tamiya A-3 in the stash

Tony, Personally, if the kit is frustrating you, then just put it back in the box. Some day you just might want to try it again. If you tossed it so be it.

The reality of it is that just about everyone one of us has done what you did: toss a kit that you just hated because it literally fought you every step of the way, and was winning the war. The difference is that the vast majority of us just never post it.

Sorry to hear that. You're not alone though, I had trouble with the exact same area of the kit when I built Eduard's A-8. When I finally got it done, I sold the A-6 I had in my stash. I'm quite happy how it turned out in the end, but I think it's just too much trouble.

I guess it just requires VERY meticulous care with the subassemblies that go in the front fuselage in order to go together nicely. It felt like it only took one bit to go slightly awry and soon it was all messed up.
I had trouble with the fuselage gun compartment, MG ammo boxes interfering with the main U/G bay, engine mount system (I ended up ditching the delicate mounts and just made a crude bu effective mount out of Milliput), the gun compartment cover, the canopy parts' fit to the fuselage... you name it.
In case you're interested, here's the Fw 190 Campaign thread with my build updates: -link- (link leads to thread page where I started my entry)

Fortunately Eduard responded to the criticism they got for the kit being quite tricky to build, as the Hellcats that followed were engineered with ease of assembly in mind. The first release F6F-3 I've built went together with almost zero issues. (no pun intended. )

Thanks! Glad to hear you like it.
I'm not that sure about dedication, guess the kit being a campaign entry and its wonderful detailing played their part in me seeing it through.
