Hi folks.
Anybody interested in a Campaign dedicated to the Me262? An iconic, groundbreaking aircraft which I think deserves some serious attention from the fraternity here.
I have 4 or 5 kits in the stash in 1/48 and would love to break them out as a diversion from the radial engined US fighters that been most of my recent builds.
I know we are looking at a 2015 start date, but that will give me time to get some reference material and possibly aftermarket goodies sorted out.
I know there was a "Luft 46" Campaign a while back, but I couldn't find reference to a dedicated 262 build.
Any scale, dioramas, what-ifs, just lots of these elegant birds.
What say ye ?
Cheers, D

I would join, Damian, if your heart was set on a dedicated Me.262 campaign. Don't have one in the stash, but, its likely a guarantee there will be ample time to aquire all the stuff. And who dosen't want a 262 in the collection.
Truth be told though, my opinion is that a straight Luftwaffe build would be more attractive to a greater number of builders. I don't think there's ever been a straight Luftwaffe campaign covering the aircraft 1933-1945.
Like I said, though. Thats just one dummy's opinion.

Damian,
Count me in if this campainha idea lifts off, got 3 Me262 in my stash, one being Trimaster's reboxing by Revell and the others are Tamiya stuff. At least one will go
Cheers,
Pedro

Damian,
I am interested if you make it open to already started kits
Just a joke. But I might be interested... I expect it would be late date.
All the best,
Entoni

The only halfway eligible kit I have is the MPM Mistel in 1/72. I've had the bottom aircraft finished for ages, but I haven't even begun the top one, which is the more interesting of the two. I'd be up for this build if it's allowable.

Thanks for the interest folks, that's seven of us in the first few hours!
@ Ben, I tend towards more focused Campaign subjects rather than huge numbers of participants, and there are so many interesting variants available. I'm sure you will be able to pick up a suitable candidate before we get rolling.
@ Fred, so sorry mate, even with my Admin superpowers I couldn't get a ribbon to you there! Thanks for your input here.
@ Pedro, great to have you on board.
@ Tony, I agree, I will struggle to hold off starting for a year. I will just have to find something else to build in the meantime. Thanks for your interest.
@ Entoni, I don't mind allowing a started kit as long as it is only very minor work, what have you got in mind?
@ Jessica, no problems with your proposal, we can consider the slave aircraft a diorama base perhaps?
I am going to start digging out some pics of my kits and some aircraft to put a bit more flavour in the thread, please feel welcome to do likewise.
Cheers, D

Hi Damian,
I have started a super detailing project with Revel's 1/72 scale model a long ago, but the only job I did is some cutting in the wing area and wheel wells... that's the only thing I did... I can make some photos later for you. However, the campaign won't start before 2015 imho, so I might consider signing up with another schwalbe... an 1/48 kit is in the stash as well.

Entoni, if that is all that has been done, I am happy to allow you to enter that kit for the Campaign.
Here is possible build candidate #1 for me:
I understand from reading some reviews that the kit contained in the box is not actually correct for the variant so I think I would build the Nightfighters variant and source some after market decals.
I will post pics of several other options soon.
Cheers, D

Actually, I went net-window shopping yesterday. I didn't realize there were so many 262 kits available. They start in at 3 bucks for 1/144 and graduate to 100 dollars in 1/32.
Something for everyone.

Yes, very. And it's also really difficult to store them because they take up so much room.

Bump time. I've been busy this week doing stocktake at work, in 44 degrees Celsius with no Airconditioning! I haven't had a chance to dig out my other candidate kits to get photos, but hopefully will get this done over this weekend.
I'm sure that there are plenty of 262s stashed away out there, drag them out folks and let's build them!
Cheers, D

Wouldn't the 262 come under the "1st gen jet fighters" campaign starting later this year?

Hi Damian,
I'd definitely be in. I led the Luftwaffe '46 campaign a few years back, it was a really enjoyable group build.
I have the Revell 1/72 Nightfighter with a Part PE set to go with it, built one before and it's a nice little kit
Take care, Mike.

Hi Neil.
The 262 certainly fits in that category, but this campaign most likely won't start until the other is almost over, and I think a dedicated campaign will showcase a few of the more obscure variants and bring up some more detail of the aircrafts history.
9 interested parties so far, almost ready to submit folks !

Howdy Y'all
Looks like this campaign won't start until late 2014 or early 2015. With that said, it gives me plenty of time to plan. I'll sign on, count me in. I'll probably do a 1/48 Tamiya kit.
Take care,
Don "Lakota"

G'day Don. Thanks for pushing us into "submission time" territory as number 10 !
I will do the necessary paperwork shortly and send it off to the higher powers. Stay tuned for more news, and please feel free to post up any 262 images, of aircraft or kits, as you see fit.
Cheers, D

Option #2 for me is this gem from Tamiya which comes with the Kettenkraftrad
Option #3 is from Cyber Hobby
and it comes with some neat little extras as well
Between these 2 kits I could build up a really nice diorama (one day, perhaps !)
I have a couple of Hobby Boss kits stashed away somewhere as well, but I am moving house in the next few weeks so they won't see daylight for a month or two at least.
And now for some inspiration, there are some great photos to be found HERE including this one

There's no link yet since this proposal is in its early definition and "see if enough people like it" stage. If we get sufficient interest, the Campaign Admin will approve the proposal and post the sign-up link.

Higher powers feeling grouchy today.
OK, better now! This campaign is APPROVED! It will run from March 1 through September 1, 2015. Again, sorry for how long it is 'til the start, there are a lot of campaigns out there. But it gives you time to build up your deadly stockpile!
You can sign up here.
