Hi Terri, I built this kit a couple of years back for the twin booms campaign and if it's not too late I would advise to put some of your weight in the cowling as well as the nose as this can be quite a tail sitter.

Terry,
Nice save on the glass. Yes, you can still see the crack, but once the framing is painted it will just look more like a shadow then not. Fit does look really good. I would go totally blind trying to mask that small glass. I had enough trouble with the 1/48 glass.

You have enough of that shot to last your for several life times.

Looking forward to your next update. Should be wearing some paint by then.

The greenhouse fitting looks great. Should be easy enough set and finish, but, I do hope you have a suitable mask set. If not, your going to be there a while.

And I like your ecofriendly way of doing things with weights and wax.

Doing it the old fashion way with same strips of Tamiya tape and yes I have been sitting in front of the bench for a while today applying the mask . On the last part now and just about done .

Hey Allen , I haven't glued the cowls in place yet just in case more weight needs to be added . So I'm safe to go . Thanks for the heads up

Hey Joel , I can say this . It does get hard on the eyes . So I do a little - take a break -repeat until done . Almost finished with this then I can commit to paint .

Terri, Your reply was there this morning, but not yesterday. I'm blaming it on the internet. Some wacky stuff happens from time to time.

So how's the eye strain this morning after finishing masking all that mini-glass? ;-)

Terri,
Your paint looks really good. I'm assuming that the next step is decaling, then weathering. And I'm really looking forward to your approach to weathering a all black paint scheme.

As Joel said, I am also looking forward to seeing you approach on the weathering. Assuming that you will use pastels again, it would be a good and a kind thing to do if you showed us how you do it. I was doing a little bit of trial and error myself, and it was mainly error. So all hints would be welcome.

It's a really nice build so far!

Hey Joel , me eyes are recovering nicely . Can almost get them back to focusing !

Don't you just love these computer things

The paint didn't turn out as good as I was hoping some areas stayed gloss while other areas end with a ruff effect . Will use towards my advantage with the weathering .

Fredrik , Thanks for dropping by and having a peek . I can share a few tips , but I don't want this to drag on do to time restraints .

Got them sticker things on ...the red outline for the walk ways gave a bit of trouble and aren't as even as the should be . Next time I will spray and mask these ...

Terri, the decaling looks darn good to me. Those red wing tank strips look just about perfect. Apply a few mists coats of gloss, then a heavy coat, and all should be ready for weathering.

Being back at work has left not much time in front of the bench but I did manage to get the top side weathered .

I did this a little different then on the 190 . I used a tap , rub , wipe method and applied this to the rivets and access panels and control surfaces . I sealed this with dull coat for the next step . Exhaust stains were applied next . Their is three different filters with each on being sealed with dull coat . Chipping was next along the leading edges of the wings and cowls and again sealed with dull coat with a final placement in a few key areas with raw umber .

Terri,
Impressive to say the least. I chickened out with no exhaust stains. Yours came out perfect. I kept on going back and forth between the before weathering and after weathering pictures. Big difference. Looking real good.

The end is finally insight.

Hi Joel ,

Thanks for following along on this build , nice to have someone enjoy it as much as I do . Will have this button up this weekend . Only work I done is a apply a wash on the landing gear so now it just needs to be fixed in place once the weathering is done .

Terri,
Looking forward to it. It's been a entertaining and fun journey for me as well.

Outside of actually building models for the pure fun of it, I like to look at other builders work, both through the build process, as well as the final model as a stand alone presentation. It's just that I appreciate what others have accomplished, or at least tried to accomplish. I both appreciate their work and efforts, and use it as a guide and a tool to move my efforts forward.

I'm by no means a aircraft historian, nor really care to be one. My interest in aircraft is in reality through the eyes of a plastic scale modeler. My chosen eras of pre-WW11 through Vietnam is simply because I grew up in the 50's and 60's, and model companies like Revell, Monogram, Hawk, Aurora, etc. produced models mostly from that time frame.

Living literally 15 min from Grumman's main plant in Bethpage NY, and a 30 min bike ride to Republic Aircraft in Farmingdale NY, afforded both my brother & I nearly unlimited opportunities to see a lot of current and past company aircraft, both on the ground and in the air. To a boys growing up, building models of what we saw was a fun thing to do back in those days.

Hi Joel ,

I'm far from an expert as well but one thing that I have learned over the years . Even they are wrong at times as newer info becomes available . I admire the ones who dedicate their lives to research . For the most part I just like to build and only a few subjects will I do detailing or even a lot of scratch building . I won't do this with ever subject either . Wouldn't get anything done .

Here is the finished the build .

What i nice build terri. I was following it silently. But enjoying it every post.
A beautiful endresult it is. I especially like the way the adging came out. Icing on the cake so to say. It really livens the model.
