Wow, that's harsh. Are the shop owners not willing to special order for you?

Harsh it may be, but to get an Eduard or Roden kit I have to travel or pay postage, the one shop that is better than the others is the most awkward to get to, and still doesn't have much of a range. I bought 5 kits at the end of last year, two Airfix at two different local shops, three in Hannants in London, one Eduard and two bargains from the pre-owned section. Same with paint and glue, Two shops locally don't sell anything but Revell or Humbrol, three don't sell Plas-Weld glue, one has a VERY limited range of Alclad. The one shop that came closest to my needs shut down, I couldn't keep him going on my own, and I noticed he had Roden kits in for months, LHS just can't afford to cater to oddballs, they want too many odd things.

Andrew: for us on the other side of the pond who thought Hannants was a good place to obtain a kit or special item. What is your take on there service such as stock and prices?

I really need to actually sit down and catalog what is in my stash. Educated guess is around 700

Being the owner of an LHS, makes it all too easy to add something to the stash.

Hey Scott, about what we talked about the other day, you don't happen to have that Lynx M113 in that ±700 stash?

ps: I desactivated my FB page Scott. Never really liked it.

I wonder why they bothered making private messaging available!

Stock is better than anywhere else I know, and the guys in the shop are modellers, usually up for a chat and always a project on the go, last time I was in the London shop they had a Wingnuts DH2 on the go, my kind of build. Prices are not discounted so most stock is full price. I have never ordered by mail as I visit London two or three times a year, that is usually enough.

@Andrew: I just found a hobby shop last night and went for a visit today, the people were my kind of people but the shop was in a sorry state and probably seen better days several decades ago. About half of their stock was consignment (great for older collecting) but the new stock what there was, was at an exorbatant amount that I will be able to purchase 3 for 1 even with postage.

Bob, shops need volume to be cheap, these guys pay overheads, staff, taxes. One of our best model shops is an ironmongers that diversified into models, he does all sorts.

Andrew, my problem is being able to remember the days of MONOGRAM, REVELL, AIRFIX, FROG, and AURORA kits for .98 cents.

My pile consists of around 75 or so older kits. I haven't visited my LHS in two months even though it's only a 60 mile round trip. Shipping is the deciding factor for any mail orders that I may consider. I suppose that my purchases in 2015 will be for paint and glue.

LOL Same here. Sticker shock is brutal!!

And I thought the $90 I paid for a Tamiya Enterprise years ago was hefty.
