Hi, it will be this one, coming next

I guess, the MiG-23 is a very common fighter and the kit is itself well known. Reviews are spread all over the web and it is discussed by people, who are much more profound than me.
The Trumpeter kit is very nice in the box, very well packaged
and the detail, panels and decals look nice.
After reading some reviews, i have discovered, that the kit has it s share of issures but it ist to good, to leave it in it`s box.

Bernd,

This looks like an interesting build. I got this kit fairly recently and will be following along to see how it goes. And you're right, that is an interesting site, thanks for posting it!

Bernd,
Looks like a decent kit in the box, but only building it will tell the full story. Looking forward to following your build.

Hi, thank you both for your comments. One flaw in this kit is the missing cushion for the KM-1 seat, i did it with Verlinden
putty

For testfit reasons i taped the main parts together, to see how it fits and compare the whole thing with pictures and plans from the WWW. This is not a small plane ! Compare it with a F-4

Hi, small update, some parts are assembled/painted/primed.
The cockpit tup, in it`s very own blue/green. This colour was mixed more ore less 50% Revell 55/50% Humbrol 30
The rest of the cockpit will be shown as assembled. At first i thought, the cockpit detail is not so good, but the MiG-23 has a bare cockpit.
The second pic ist the main wheel well.

Looks like you're off to a great start. I too have a couple of these kits to build one of these days, so I am watching with great interest!

Hi Doug
Thank you for your comment. In my opinion these are great kits.
The test fits came out great. But the parts could have a bit more details. The cockpit needs a throttle and currently i do some fuel and hydraulic lines in the wheel bays.If you are not on a budget, you can get the full aftermarket-overkill ! My MiG will be out of the box with a few details made by me.
Here are a few updates. At first the instrument panel, the distinctive white stripe is painted, the instrument decals look better on the paper

it looks like this, the instruments were cut out in portions

I am quiete unhappy with the results. A mock up test fit will show, how much can be seen on the installed cockpit

The upper fuselage is so far completed, the airbrakes came on later. There must be a hole drilled to install the empennage.
It is pre cut, no problem

Here the more or less completed upper fuselage

It fits without putty, the air intakes are still missing.
I assembled these parts a few day`s ago, the result is also visible in the compare pic`s with my F-4 Phantom. The wings are movable !

Hi, cockpit take two. The Trumpeter decals are gone, the new ones came from a TF-104G ! The look is better and it is a bit more accurate.

The instructions are a bit misleading, when it comes to instal
the cockpit sides. It should look like this.

The cockpit itself is not a great one,but there will be not much to see, when completely assembled.

Hi John, these colours are selfmixed by me, i mixed them from
Revell shades and they are intended for tanks ( tracks )
The colours of burnt metal are difficult, lots of different shades. The outer ring of the burner can will get a much more
special treatment

The "real thing" this pics are taken in January 2012 at the
aircraft museum in Werningerode/Germany. This MiG-23 is displayed outside and sadly, you can see that. The items inside are well restored, i hope this sad aircraft will get the same treatment some day, but on the other side it is original. The visit was my birthday present : - )

a Mach 2 fighter with a cross country landing gear, i guess this will be the most complicated part of the build

lots of metal shades..

is this the green shade Eduard mentions in their MiG-21 instructions ??

Bernd I'm not sure what shade of green Eduard refer to as I'm not at home right now but having seen the Mig-23 at Newark air Museum the burner ring is a shade of mid metallic green.

Hi Luciano,so we have a "green", after reading the Eduard instructions, i can`t believe there is a colour, able of surviving those temperatures. But it is there.

Brend,
Nice build so far. Nothing wrong with adding your own details, as that's what I do most of the time.

Will be following along as I appreciate a solid quality build, and a education as I know literally nothing about Russian aircraft.

Hi Joel, thank you for your reply, i do most of my builds
more or less out of the box. I don´t feel a need to replace
parts of the Kit. I also do not know much of the Mig-23.
This can be an advantage ;-)
Here is the next update, i assembled the now painted main wheel bay and glued the whole thing together, fit is quite good

I also closed the holes in the wings for the wingtanks
