Dredging this one up from the dead, I finally finished this kit a little while ago, so wanted to "close out" the build blog, as it can be frustrating to search for build blogs, and when you find one, discover it never got completed.
So here we are:
Kit in black primer, ready for painting to commence:
The sharp-eyed amongst you will notice that the quarter windows are now removed. I took them out as they are actually designed to be installed after painting, and since I was having to paint the glass in a bit to hide my glue, I decided it would be better to take them out, clean them up and put them in at the end.
First paint on:
It had been awhile since I had did a dense mottling paint job, so this one turned out a bit too "blobby". So I repainted the RLM 76 and did it again:
That's more the look I wanted. So I added decals (from Rocketeer Models in Japan), all the final bits and here is the finished model:
So, that closes out this build, thanks for looking!

Hi Doug
Another beauty! - and great to see it finished and looking so spectacular.
One question - was there a reason you used an overall black primer? I know it works well for n/m finishes, but I'm more used to seeing you use a primer on camouflaged aircraft.
All the best

Thanks guys
It's true I typically use thinned Mr Surfacer 1200 for primer. However, they came out with a new Mr Surfacer 1500 (Black), and having seen others use it successfully, I thought I would give it a try.
The black primer works as a pre-shade, and makes it easy to vary the tone/intensity of the final top color as you can apply lighter coats and have a little darker color and thicker coats and have a lighter color (if that makes sense).
While I won't use it all the time, I will be using it in future on other projects.
Thanks again!
