Hi, it is time to get something finished, and Revells big Ju
is a good candidate, i started this one last year and this was well before i intended to share my hobby with others, so there are no pics of the main build, but there are no real problems.
The assembly is pretty foreward, i had some fit issues on the
foreward fuselage/cockpit area and the landing gear struts
have assembled a nasty seam.
Here are some pictures :

Note the cut to fit toothpick, used to wide this part of the
cockpit
Here are some pics of the cockpit and seats, painted in RLM 66 dark gray. It seems the Ju 88 production have this colour from begin, you can see it on photos and the one from the fjord have this colour too.



The instrument panel is not on the same quality level then the rest of this nice cockpit, i used some dials, stolen from
other LW kits in this scale

The seams are very visible, more of the landing gear is coming later on..



This kit came without bomb racks, my came from le Arsenal, the complete aftermarket stuff, used on this kit are from a very good hobby shop, called "Aero Spezial"


As it came out it was a must have, because i am highly interested in this type of aircraft and it is the only maintream kit of the A-1.
The dimensions are enormous and it will take much of my precious space.

the cockpit looks really nice, I didn't realised the size of the Ju. Looks quite impressive. And what about the landing gear, the seam? Does it come in two halves?

Hi Robert, thank you for your reply, yes it is big, it is
difficult to work with this "beast".At first i had to clear
my bench.
The main gear struts are moulded in two pieces, that means
a seam running down the whole strut and there are some
moulding flaws (sinkholes)as well, i spent some work on the
struts,the pictures will follow. Scale Aircraft Conversations
are producing a metal replacement.

Bernd; I have noticed that RoG do the same with the landing gear in most of the big kits, but they cannot be beaten for price and most everything else looks good. I have the A4 that I have to build and so will watch your progress with interest.

Hi Darren, this seam is not a big problem, just a few minutes
with a sanding stick is enough, but with much care to avoid
destroying the details.
And you are right,for the price you can t complain :-)
One note, Revell provides wing spares for the wings and tail
plane, with a little care, you can wait to assemble it until
the end of the completion, this will make handling and masking a lot easier. For my build i glued the wings, but left the tail off
Don t stash yours too long, it is fun to build

thanks for clearing the splitted landing gear struts, didn't know that.
And yes, I agree most of the time you get a lot of plastic with RoG for your money. I remember building the Arado in 1/32 some moons ago.

Just saw your build thread, and I'll be following along till its conclusion.

Your cockpit looks quite nice. As you said the IP is below the standards of the rest of the cockpit.

Pre-shading always concerns me when the main color is a light shade. Most of the time it just seems to over power the base color, making for a checkerboard look. You've only shown pre-shading for the topside, and one close up, which really looks quite good. The start of the weathering on the lower surfaces looks just like pin washes for the panel lines. So far it's very impressive.

Good morning, Joel, thank you for your comment, i have already
mistaken a pic :-/
The weathering/shading on the topside will be much more subtle,
pictures from early Ju 88 show relative clean aircraft. The A-1
was not long in service,this version was soon replaced with the
more common A-5,A-1 aircraft were brought up to new standards.
The upper sides on my build were painted with acrylics, just
a try out, so far i am satisfied with the results. Here are some
pictures :
At first the undersides were complete covered with tape

Painting was started with the darker RLM 70 why?This makes masking a bit easier.(for me)

the RLM 70 looks nice to me. What kind of paints do use? I also try during painting to go from dark to lighter colors. Keep up the good work.

Good morning Robert, thank you very much, the used colours are from Revell, they can be airbrushed very well, i also use the dedicated thinner.Yesterday i got really far with painting.
the painted surface was dry after a few minutes and i was able to mask. One mistake was the lack of priming, the surface is a bit too rough, but nothing a smooth sanding and a lot of clear can t compensate. With these colours you can clean your airbrush with window cleaner or water.
The fading effects on the model will be changed to a more irregular pattern.The colours are varied with a drop of white/black Your airbrushed weathering effects on the Raiden are impressive,still enjoying your IJN show

Very good progress on the Ju. The colors do like nice, subtle fading. It's really a beast in 1/32.
Good to hear about the Revell colors, I went most of the time for Tamiya acrylics. Did you mix the tones on the Ju or straight from the bottle?

The topside two color paint scheme really looks quite good. I also think that it helps to reduce the pre-shading effect of every major panel line. Your end result really has a nature look to it.

Robert,the first try was done with unchanged colours, i am
no true believer in scale effects, but these huge surfaces
cry for darker shades, in real live, this colours look often very dark, sometimes like one shade.So i put a few drops black in,
Revells shade for RLM 71 was too bright for my taste, very much like the Model Master tone, whis is more or less off.I used a
self mixed colour.For me it is closer, but maybe not 100%
RLM 71.
Joel,i reduced this effect and it looks more accurate to
me, hard to get on film, here a picture taken out

Some words on the markings, the box contains a very nice looking decal sheet, with three options:
7./KG 54 "Totenkopf" B3+DR France September 1940
3./KG 30 4D+FL France 1940
U4+TK from the Norway campaign, recovered from a lake. Revell
boxed this one without the bomb racks and i wanted a Ju with
this racks, i don t no if these aircraft carried them, so i choose a decal sheet from Techmod.

Hi Julian, yes the most colourfull version, here it comes !
At first i did the Techmod decals, perfect print,thin,they
react perfectly with Sol. The stencils are very fine, but
hard to see, i say very thin, that means, a decal on the surface
was hard to move to the right place, my swastika is in a slight
false position on the tail, but no sleepless nights with this.
The kit decals were also used, more robust, but thin too, they
are very good too, second to none





Pictures from the underside are comming and detailing too

It's colorful but not gaudy or garish,I have always found it an appealing emblem. The decals have snuggled down nicely Bernd

Thank you, for your comment, Julian, i like these LW camo with
these colourfull markings.The next time i present some more
aftermarked goodies and some more detail work, there are a lot
of decals to be done, props,wheel struts, .....and there is a lot of other work to do, but it is fun and i like this kit very much,
i am thinking about a second one, a A-4 or something else with this AIMS conversion sets.
