Joel nothing is glued yet. I have a plan for the detailing of the wheel well. The fuel tank is actually directly behind the cockpit. There is actually little in the wing itself.

Joe,
That should prove just how little I know about German aircraft.

An Update:
Well lookie here. NO PINS!!!!!
Yep that is right. The pins are gone and the framework is glued.
It is not finished but it is all one piece now.
Now what is left.
First I need to build up the framework for what I believe is a radiator.
Also I need to figure out the attachment point for the landing gear.
There you have it. Now for most this is not a big update, for me it is a big milestone. A first. I have a complete wing frame that I can move forward with.
All comments, critiques, and criticism are encouraged.

Joe,
the wing framework looks fantastic. Very well done. As you add details it will really kick it up a few notches in the realism column.
As for the landing gear attachment housing, from what I've seen of built Bf109s, the gear slants forward and outwards. Not going to be the easiest to duplicate. Can you cut out and use the kit parts?

Joel I am going to have to take a really good look at how that whole assembly goes together. I will be searching out images on google and I will be throwing out some help me posts on some forums.
I am pretty relieved at the major work on the wing being completed. I have a process that will work for future projects and it can be adapted a bit for the remaining work left on this one. One of the goals of any build or even any technique is to come up with a process that can be repeated. If it can be made simple then all the better. This one is simple and can be repeated. So success.

Very kind but what I do anyone can and most would do it much better. I think at some point in the future I may try to do a video showing just how I did this.

Productive day on the 1:24 109. Well it began last night with a start on the Wing Radiator. Then today I went through to try to get the radiator in the right spot, success. I then pulled it all together and thought why not, mock it up, see what it looks like.
Well.............here it is..............
The wing radiator..
I ran into an issue with the well that the landing gear goes into. I had to redo it a bit.
And now the way the wing looks at this point. It is not glued in but it is pretty stable.
All comments, critiques, and criticism are encouraged.

Joe,
The over all wing really looks great. I especially like the way that the radiator came out. The grill itself looks well scaled out.

Joel the grills for the radiator are the only kit pieces so far. I had to guess a lot on how the radiator went together and how it fit into the wing and such.

Well time to show the progress to this point.
Wing construction, at least the major framework and such, is done. Two months of build it up and then tear it down is finished.
Pictures.
And now the overall.
On the overall I can live with this. There is some work to be done yet. I have some of the frames to straighten and some clean up as well as finishing off the small details.
I am certifiable. Two months on this wing.
All comments, critique, and criticism are encouraged.

Joe,
Absolutely top flight scratch building. Most impressive to say the least. Even if I had the skill to do this, I highly doubt that I would have had the fortitude to spend 2 months on one wing.

Many thanks. You underestimate what you can do. You have the skill, you show it in your builds. If you were to find a subject you wanted to detail out it is easy.

Well it has been two weeks. Some progress has been made.
Finishing off the wing is proving to be a bit of a challenge. Every time I feel I am close I see more to do.
Ahh well where it is at the moment.
I have glued in the flaps and I changed the position of the spar on the fuse. It helped to straighten out the wing a touch. Still more little things to do but I have now moved forward to the next section.
The tail. I wanted to show the framing of the rudder and the stabilizer. My attempts to scratch it out of styrene failed miserably. So I cheated a bit.
Resin casts.
The third attempt to make the casts was the winner. Not too many big airpockets and the resin set up nicely. After giving it a couple of days to harden I went to work with my drill, micro drill, files, and sand paper. The result.
Next up will be to detail out the rudder and the stabilizer. I also want to tackle the landing gear. I have decided (not like I had much of a choice) to go with the kit gear. I want to make sure they are cleaned up and work with the framing.
All comments, critiques, and criticism are greatly encouraged.

Joe,
The rudder and elevator are coming along quite nicely. Just the thought of having to cut, drill, and cleanout all those areas between the ribs must have been a major effort. Just a little more finessing to get all those front and backs of the openings exactly lined up, and you've done the nearly impossible.

Here we are. The eve before Christmas Eve.
My present is................
A finished wing. Yep. That stage is done. Well except for the light on the tip and that will not happen till later anyway. The finishing process was a gloss black coat and then Model Master Steel, a misting of Alclad Airframe Aluminum, and then Furnace tape on the leading edge. I did have to reinstall a line for the landing gear hydrolic (spelling was never my strong suit) lines.
I also added just a little bit to the rudder.
I used some reference pictures and fashioned a fuel tank.
And I made a choice. I choose to do the following aircraft markings.
Well my friends that brings that part of the build to a close. Is it perfect....not by a long shot. Blemishes are present but I am happy.
Next up is to be honest something I am truly looking forward to. Tackling the interior. I have been wanting to do this since I got the kit. That will begin this week.
Til the next time.
All comments, critiques, and criticism are encouraged.
