Hello Fred,

Many thanks. Doing somewhat better after this second round. Decals might go on this weekend, then a trip to LHS, the taxman refundth cometh.

However, the 06' Dodge pick-up we have heard that the refund came and decided to spring two pin hole leaks in the radiator due to the system being over pressurized. $1,373 and change later, New radiator, hoses, 5 system flush and oil change included. Better now then later I guess.

Anyways, we'll see what happens after the dust settles with the trip to LHS.

I just found out yesterday that Cyber Hobby makes a 1/32nd scale version of the Bf 110E-2 Tropical! This got the brain wondering how good or bad the kit is compared to the 1/48th scale version. Things that make you go Hmmmmmmmmm.

Good paint job Brian, the decals should bring that Bf110 to life.

Thanks Ernest,

The paint isn't the best that I've done over the years, I still think it could be better. I'm my own worst critic I guess.

Anyways, after the decals go on, I'll be taking a break from doing any Kitmaker build blogs or reviews for awhile. I've got a project over at Auto Modeler I've been wanting to finish for the last 5 years.

Hello everyone,

I've been doing a bit of cross reference research before putting on the decals for the Bf-110-E2/Tropical for those that are into that and I've been running into "issues" with what has been put on the instruction sheet and the decal sheet provided in the kit.

Here's the instruction sheet...........

Three different aircraft are represented here. Two from the 7./ZG 26 and one from the 8./ZG 26.

Here's the decal sheet...............

Ok Brian, what's the "issues" with these? Well, none are correct will the exception to the 7./ZG 26, Libya 1942, 3U+FR markings. HOWEVER, these are marking for a Bf-110C model from May 1940!

Source: http://wp.scn.ru/en/ww2/f/318/2/1#98

Here's some other examples for the same site, can you see a pattern?

So, the question is does the decal sheet match the markings of the examples I've just posted with the E2/Tropical model? Doesn't look like it. Second question: Can you make one of the above examples with whats on the decal sheet? Ummm, no because the marking are of DIFFERENT models then what is represented in the kit.

If anyone can provide some clarification this would be most helpful.

Hmmm, lots of looks, no replies to last posting. Did I get the masses thinking on this one?

I've found other photo's on the net, two with matching the decal sheet markings, however notes on photos state either Bf-110 D or E and not E-2 Tropical. Still looking for a match to let the "rivet counter" rest at ease knowing they don't have to buy an AM decal sheet. Sorry, I had to stir the pot a little.

3U-KT at the bottom is called out incorrectly as a C4B model.
Its gotta a boat tail which makes it a later model, D (E?) I'm pretty sure.

I'd say go with whats in the Kit marking wise, unless you want to do some repainting or extra painting. You could always make masks for the lettering

Hello Shawn,

Thanks for your reply, just read it.

O.K., If this is the case on the bottom example, then why are the fourth and fifth examples from the top bearing the same "3U+KT" markings? Examples for 3U+ZS seem to be the same model aircraft, a Bf-110E-1/R4, not a Bf-110E-2/Trop.
There are two other "boat-tail" examples, 3U+MT and 3U+KR, those are listed as D-3's, but then we have one of the 3U+KT's listed as an E-2 with the "boat-tail."

As far as a repaint goes....no. Guess I'll just have to make do with what has been giving..........

Hey gang,

Found this link for RLM color list that I figured would be a good for future builds.

Update:

Research is still on going for the decals and I've been bogged down in school projects again. I know you guys would like to see this with markings but I'd like to make sure you do not go through the same challenges that have been uncovered in this build so far.

To be honest, I'm just about to the point of frustration were just the Balkenkreuz markings are going on and calling it good. After that, I'll be going on a break from reviews/blogs as I mentioned in an earlier posting here.

These are ancient, and totally all over the place! Example: 3U+ZS is a Bf 110 C-6, not an 'E' variant. Do NOT trust what is on those examples. There is far more up-to-date information available.

Hello John,

Thanks for your reply.

I've been noticing that in the research. Can you steer me in proper direction so this build can get finished. Any correct online source that you may have would help.

Thanks.

Hi Brian,

You are seeking The Book of Secrets researching this - you must have a background as a detective!

I wish I had some help for you but the best I could do is look at my old books with photos of 'Afrika Korps' Bf 110s. Those, however, are packed in boxes 500 miles away.

Hello Fred,

Thanks for the links. I've not had the time yet to look at them in detail. I'll check them out. I hope it will answer some questions and not raise more of them.
