Fred, thanks for posting the article. Women flying aircrafts, especially military aircrafts in those days were sure something special. A few years ago I got interested in that matter and searched in internet for more information. During the war nearly every country had organisations for ferry flight and many women did join those organisations. Who doesn't remember Maureen Dunlop from the British Air Transport Auxilliary, who flew just everything she could get her hands on. Another woman I remember is Shirley Slade from the Women Airforce Service Pilots. Also Germany had some female ferry flight pilots like former aerobatics pilot Vera von Bissing (sorry, only in german) or Beate Uhse.
These women were all brave and tough and many of them lost their life, because all flew unarmed aircraft.
