Can anyone help me identify the supplied engines in Rodens 1/72 Camel kits.
The engines are numbered 30 and 31. The instructions (along with all the other literature) mention that the Camel was powered either by a Le Rhone or Clerget, but which is which? I am no expert on WW1 engines so any help would be appreciated. I want to to be sure I use the right engine when it comes to building.
This is the kit in question. I also have the Trench Fighter variant in the stash.
Thanks
Stephen

Hi Stephen
The one on the left looks like a Le Rhone.
All the best

I thought that too, but it also looks like the Bentley. And seeing how they box one kit as a Bentley engined variant, I wasn't sure if that was the part for those.

Awesome pics, thanks.
Look like 31 is the Le Rhone and 30 is the Clerget. Next step is working out what camels had which engine. Might have to use the serials to do a search.

Hi Stephen
If you have a photo of your intended "bird" from the front, the Le Rhone only has one pushrod per cylinder, while the Clerget has two.
Most of the RFC Camel aces had Clergets, while Navy aces had Bentleys (but not always!)

Why did I open my mouth before checking the facts? The LeRhone did have just one pushrod per cylinder, but you won't see it - it is hidden round the back.

Thanks. I'll either build it ad Barkers or Collishaws Camels using the kit decals. I'd like to replace them, Roden decals are sometimes a bit dodgy, but haven't found much.

I'm fairly sure that Barker had a Clerget in his Camel. However older machines sometimes had Bentlys installed during repairs, so it could be hard to tell which had which...

Thanks. I'll do a little digging around but I think I am leaning towards using the Clerget. And I think I might be able to use the Le Rhone on a Morane if it fits inside the cowling.

Bentleys were installed under Naval and their later affiliate RAF contracts. The AR stood for Admiral Rotary.
