Airfix have won many new fans with their recent new-tool quarterscale Spitfire and Hurricane, but their announcement spotted by Luciano Satornetti of the first ever mainstream kit of a Defiant in this scale is possibly even more exciting.

Seconded, awesome news! Not only has Airfix really stepped up their game during the last couple of years, they're also tackling some really interesting subjects.

I'd grab one of these in a heartbeat. The second kit I ever built (please don't ask how long ago) was a 1/72 Defiant, I had it hanging from the bedroom roof for years. The prospect of a new-tooled kit in quarterscale has me drooling in anticipation.

Cheers, D

That is really an awesome news, Rowan! A Defiant in 1/48 was far too long on my wish list. So I sure get one right away.

Hi again

I just hope they depict the masses of rivets that are so prominent on the full-sized machine when you get anywhere near it - as much as I like CA's second attempt at the Defiant, strictly speaking the surface finish really is way too clean.

Anyway, just to whet everyone's appetite ready for the release, it's a good opportunity to give a link to our Walkaround that I shot at Hendon some years ago.

All the best

Rowan

This is great news, even though I don't do 1/48 anymore It also reminds me of a conversation that I was part of with the designer of the Airfix 1/24 scale typhoon, the other guy asked him, "so what are Airfix planning for their next 1/24 scale kit?"

"it hasn't been decided yet, but nothing has been discounted"

"So what about a Bolton Paul Defiant?"

"nothing has been discounted"

Mind you there has been a new tooled Spitfire and Hurricane, but I'm just saying, imaging this done to the same standard as the Typhoon

Thanks for the link to the Walkaround Rowan! You may have persuaded. Me to add this Defiant to my 'to get' list. Love 1/48 scale.

Yes of course Damian, what else Mmmmmm, camo masks for the Defiant, but I think that HKM's 1/32 Lancaster will be next

Hi again

I have to say, if we're talking 1:24, I'd like to see Airfix go back to the Gloster Gladiator that they shelved in the '70s.

All the best

I didn't know that they were planning a Gladiator in 1/24, now that would be a good idea but a B P Defiant would also be very cool I'm now not sure which one I would prefer?

Hi Mal

You should read Arthur Wards' book on Airfix - some of the stuff that never made it will make you want to weep! Of course, there's the original attempt at a big Mossie, but can you believe that a 1:24 Ju 88 was pitched in 1975!?

Thanks for the update

Yesterday, at the Culdrose air day, I bought the Airfix 1/48 Spitfire MkI and Hurricane MkI, from T7 Models, so that I could have the set when the Defiant is released

I am gathering information on the Defiant camouflage; I have it done for the Spitfire and Hurricane, so it seems necessary now I'm also doing it so that I am prepared for when Airfix release the 1/24 scale version

I'm building a 1/24 mossie for someone else at the moment, even the box is a pain to keep moving around. I have enough trouble keeping 1/48 aircraft from getting damaged! ..... but I would def. buy a 1/24 gladiator
