had a bit of a push with this kit, but it doesn't look like it will be finished for the deadline of february 1st, which will give it the dubious honour of being the first kit that missed a campaign finish.
anyway heres whats been happening-
simply butt joining the wings to the fuselage was never going to work, especially with the long glider wings on this kit, so i gave them a bit of support with steel rod-
one step forward, two steps back........
after fixing the wings on with two part epoxy to really fix them, the next day i noticed that the wings were misaligned, one being slightly further back compared to the other, despite them seeming to line up at the front
my answer to this was to shave off a thin wedge from the trailing edge of the further back wing, which seems to have hidden what was a glaringly obvious faux pas.
tonights progress was the cycle of prime/fill/sand/repeat!

A couple of great models have been finished so well done to Martin and Pete.
Anyone need an extension to finish, I was thinking a couple of weeks, just so we can get another few over the line?
Andy

So i was able to finish my Texan. It the only campaign i was able to finish in the past few months... I am happy that i was at least finish on time with that build. Kit itself is not bad, if you remember that it is a very old kit. The biggest problem (of course, if not talking about raised panel lines) is canopy. If someone whats to build that model, make sure that you will get yourself one from Squadron. and some pictures of Texan being made:

the 21st of february i take it? not, oh i don't know, december?
joking aside, i;ve got my vigilant built, so i can now concentrate on the eye popping white/red/orange scheme, which is the part of this kit i've been looking forward to the most.
right, a bit of a catch up with whats been done to this over the last week and a half-ish, main thing is the main wheels are on, and for a one piece, white metal, fixed undercarriage took a heck of a lot of work before i was happy it would be strong enough and look right.
i had to drill and pin the leg, as I've done to every main part of this kit, also decided to cut off and replace the kit wheels as the white metal was just too clunky looking....
....then it turned out one leg was shorter than the other when i was dry fitting it all together, resulting in one wingtip almost touching the worktop whilst the other was pointing in the air!
after a bit of packing i got them as level as i could
as she stands now,
just need a bit more priming work, then a coat of the glossy white (dulux's finest!) then the fun really begins with orange and red hi viz panels!

one step forward two steps back........
yesterday i got the hi viz orange panels painted on the wings, with quite a lot of paint creep under the masking, but i was more interested in getting the spacing right, then masking each section individually and tidying them up, it actually would have made life a lot easier for these to be provided as decals, especially given what happened today!
looks great doesn't it!
however when i was sanding the wing down to buff out a couple of small blemishes this happened-
notice i had to apply the air cadet/stripe decal early on, before i painted the red nose as the decal has the rounded corners where it meets the red paint of the nose.
it seems the orange wasn't 100% dry, in fact it was so soft i noticed i was putting fingerprints into it whilst handling it,and it felt very "plasticy" and also doesn't seem to have quite keyed to the white paint underneath. all i can do at the minute is leave it to hopefully harden off enough for me to be able to buff out the edge and re-paint.
not a situation i want to in, with the finish date looming!

This is the progress of my built in this campaign
My home base is Schiphol airport, at the fokker factory (now closed and mostly demolished), Schiphol east the Fokker aircraft company not only built civil airliners such as the well known F-27 and F-28 and the derivatives but also license build military aircrafts such as F-104 and F-16. I worked at Fokker a long time ago and also made in my working years parts for the F-16 so having a F-16 in the stash I already had it set to built for this campaign
Builds up nicly
The first built aircraft was serial J-259 which is a old "block 10" F-16 these old F-16 are different than later blocks one of the easy noticeable features is the smaller horizontal stabilizer,..however I found that out when I already installed the kit part,.. Anyway I needed to correct it which was easily done
The office is hardly filled so I added some details and for the looks made a HUD so it has some feel of a the real thing
It's now coated with further
The biggest struggle is to find Dutch National roundels as these are not the standard size that the current F-16 have and as such all decals that you can find are a bit to small,...well we will think of something i guess
Thats it for now
Phil good luck with the paint! i would love to see it finished
