In case anyone wash't aware, the gallery is experiencing issues. Admin is aware of it and working on it. I'll try to post when it gets fixed.

Cheers for the updates Mike!
Here is a slightly different type of update, the Hornchurch Spitfire is finally underway!

All I have done so far is some interior bits and fuselage butchery for the resin radio set from CMK

So there it is so far, more to follow shortly I hope, I am a bit restricted for work space since moving into temporary accommodation for my apprenticeship, which has made this a complicated project so far, but I am doing what I can with the little space that I have!

Ive broken ground on this project.

I just love vacuform models. I will miss them when they are gone.

Using the technique suggested by Jessie C. in the recent Vac and resin campaign, priming the whole sheet and cutting straight down-

A little tricky knifing around curves and details, but definately reduces the amount of material that has to be turned into dust.

And, because i've become a bit obsessive about always building twins, Ill be building an old Frogovitch 707 kit -

which I will dress up as a VC-135 like this -

No shortage of cool planes stopping at Kwajalein, is there, Jonathan? ...and vacuform?! Bold!

looks like I let the start date of this one slip by! I haven't got the kit I'm hoping to build for this campaign yet, but it will be a special one in that its the only aircraft I've actually flown (under VERY close supervision!)

more later!

Hello fellow campaigners. Tonight I present my contribution to the Local Airfields Campaign. I am lucky enough to live in a county rich with aviation heritage, Northamptonshire, what's more, I have 3 former RAF airfields within 6 miles of home, Desborough, Grafton Underwood and Harrington. The former was an RAF bomber training base, Grafton Underwood was home to the USAAF 384th Bomb Group and Harrington the 801st (Provisional) Bomb Group during WW2. After the war Harrington was one of the sites used by the RAF (in reality the USAF) as a base for Thor missiles. The Thor is to be my model for this campaign.

I picked up this 1/72 kit from Belcher Bits at Scale Model world 2014, it is well moulded in Grey resin with a little flash and only 1 hole, easily filled. The kit is for the missile and launch pad. This provides a good basis for superdetailing with all the associated pipework, missile clamp and fueling structure as well as diorama potential if you have the room.

I shall be building the basic kit which is shown below

Nice kit Mr B

More progress on the Hornchurch spit
All major assembly is now finished and I have got the camo scheme on, dare I say so myself, this is actually looking good! A rarity where my work is concerned!

I started doing the decals but I messed up the roundels on the wings so I need to go and dig through the spares box for 2 replacements as I managed to bugger up both of them!

Hey Ho and up she rises. The Thor has started to take shape even though my attempts at sanding and gluing has not worked out well, misalignment and gaps abound, Ho hum
The base plate is also coming together: it too needs a lot more work

I think you are on par for the course, so far.
"resin kit" almost invariably should read "resin and putty kit"
sometimes they even recommend a brand of putty

and we're off!
as i mentioned earlier this will be a model of the only aircraft i've ever flown, technically its a self launching glider, and as a member of staff at a local air training corps flight i was lucky enough to get a flight once 25 years ago now (where did that time go!)

local airfield is right, i was working nearby R.A.F. Syerston in Nottingham a couple of weeks ago-

the hill in the distance is the end of the runway, you can see the windsock there with the naked eye, but it seems to have been lost in my pic.

later that day the subject of my build came along-

...and heres mine!

started building it yesterday, or should i say, as its a limited run resin kit i started cleaning and fettling the parts!

the small square is actually a window thats flashed over, so i opened them up, then turned my attention to the interior.

and thats as far as i've got, should have something of the interior together by the weekend.

The aerodrome closest to where I live is Jandakot Airport (IATA: JAD, ICAO: YPJT.

In 2014, Jandakot was the second busiest airport in Australia by total aircraft movements with more than 250,000.

The only facility with more aircraft movements was Sydney, which had more than 330,000.

Jandakot is used as a base by the Royal Flying Doctor Service and numerous other Government agencies.

It is also used extensively by recreational pilots and other light aircraft.

It is also home to at least two Trojan 28B's.

Am just waiting for the postman to deliver Roden's Trojan T-28B.

Just a little progress in the last few weeks on the Thor. I have begun to trim the webs from the castings and fill the holes in the missile body.

Small progress but progress

I'll be watching your build with a lot of interest. It's a kit I've thought about buying, but then I remember my last experience with Heritage Aviation resin and it was not good! A Canberra T.17 conversion that was warped, wonky and full of more bubbles than a Wispa bar. Luckily for me it was thrown in as a freebie when I bought an old tool Airfix Canberra B2 at a model show so I wasn't out of pocket. But I can see why the trader was so keen to get rid of it!
I hope your kit is of much better quality.

So there is my input to the campaign:

It is going to look exactly like on the art box. The Navy Station in Glenview does not exist anymore. More about it you can find at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naval_Air_Station_Glenview
It has to be a quick build so the only addition I am going to make are seat belts. And of course I will use mask for canopy

i really need to get my finger out on this!

@ stephen- this kit is my second heritage build, the first being a supermarine 224 that did need quite a bit of fettling and scratchbuilding, but it did turn out to be a nice model when finished, this kit does seem to be a step up from that, with a reasonable interior that just needed control columns and seatbelts and the instrument panel jazzing up.

i did expect to get quite a bit done over xmas, but that just didn't happen, all i managed was to get the vacform canopy trimmed to shape and put on, then a bit of filler work to fair it in to the fuselage.

how it looks with the wings and tail just placed on the fuselage.

You and me both Phil.
My build got stashed under the desk, whilst I started (yet) another model, I then had to look up the finish date for my own campaign , and realised I haven't a lot of time left, so the Spitfire has been bought back out, and should commence in the next few days.
Great builds everyone and some really interesting and different projects going on.
What other campaign would have a Thor missile and a powered glider in the same campaign .
Keep up the updates and enjoy yourself everyone.

I haven't touched my entry in this campaign since my last post, but the box is on the top of the pile, so anything could happen!
The last few weeks of the these campaigns are always the most interesting

I had to withdraw from the campaign. One reason is I really can't find a suitable aircraft that is housed at the local airport and I seem to have run out of time.
