The daughter in law gave her mum an IKEA voucher for our 14th anniversary gift. So, my wife buys this monstrosity of a coffee table. I wasn't happy about it when I saw the sizes of the IKEA boxes when I carried them into the house. They'd scheduled their arrival home for shortly after I got home from work, see...
I like open plan living with lots of space...room to move...the illusion of bigness when rooms are small.
Anyway, I woke the next morning and went into the living room to watch a little TV with my coffee and toast, I see a huge white rectangle in the center of the room.
And in one little corner, I spy one of my models... She'd put it in there while I was asleep. It looked kind of lonely so I added another.
As of yet, there is nothing in one corner of the new coffee table...but I can't have that quarter, too...
So, that's my sop for the big table...a little quarter in which I can display a couple of my smaller aircraft in plain sight instead of a back room of the house.
Heck, I'm not really unhappy about it...I might get a couple more in there.
Cheers,
Gary

What a neat way to display two very well built models Gary. I like the innovation!

Just showed my wife. IKEA is just 8-10 Km away. She was not overly enthusiastic.

Gary,
At least your wife appreciates your modeling efforts and gave you one compartment. I can see you adding a 3rd WW11 fighter, and easily rotating models in and out, especially your newest effort.
We have all natural Pine furniture including the coffee tables. The massive dining room hutch is loaded with china, crystal, and such that is hardly ever used these days. I told her it would make a great display cabinet besides what I already have in the modeling/computer room. Since this is a family type forum, I really can't repeat her response

So sweet of the Missus!
If you rotate those with the tails to the corners it looks like you'd have room to fit four and still have ample room for a couple of figures.

That is very cool,I often thought about building a complete diorama in a piece like that, maybe for a den or rec room.

Gary, that's a great eye catcher for you and your visitors. I'd go with Joel's suggestion and rotate the models in the table. My kits are all on two 6 story shelfs (0,40 x 2 meters), looks like on an aircraft carrier ....
Scott, I know about the distances in AUS, travelled all around from Sydney to Sydney and through the middle (heck, that's 25 years ago ....), but 1600 km to drive to Ikea is quite something. Next Ikea for me is 50 km away and in 2018 opens one here in town ....

I was super lucky to get this FOR FREE when an LHS closed last summer. It's a bit of a fixer-upper but a lighted, three shelf display case is not something one walks away from!
