Hi, I've got the late version Rumpler C.IV. I was planning on building it OOB as my first to see how it all comes together. But if I see anything good I might invest in a few aftermarket items. Wiring up the engine is the only major job that I can see so far.
I already have the DH9, Snipe and Albtros DV on my wish list.

Rumpler is on my wishlist too. But for sure that will not happen till next year...
Anyway quite a rigging challenge before you

It's a great kit and had lots of options in the box.
I'm going to try rigging Italeri's repop of Academy's Nieuport before I tackle the Rumpler.
Best to practice on a cheap kit sometimes.

Ok guys, guns are done and mounted, low-wings done and pre-weathered on the bottom side, floats done and pre-weathered. Float struts attached

Hi Bart

Beautiful work! Did the decals need much help snuggling down over the detail on the floats? - I've been wondering how best to tackle that on my kit when I get that far.

All the best

Rowan that is probably the hardest part of the kit
You'll need a lot of patience and gallons of setting fluid
You may try to additionally cut decals into 2-3 parts along the longer axis to make the process easier. Or just go for the bitumen covered floats
One more hint - put some weight into the floats' fronts.

Hi Bart

I figured it might be. Looking at how the decals are broken down, I couldn't help but think I might have done it differently.

Thanks for the heads up on the weights. I'll remember when the time comes.

All the best

Coming together really well. The hex lozenge is very eye catching and certainly different from the land-based version. It does make me wonder how effective a disruptive camouflage it was over water.
I might have to add thus one to my wish list.

Hi guys! Latest update after quite long silence
Decals and small details added. Weathering on the fuselage and lower wings done using pigments (drybrushing) and oils.
Upper wing is already decaled, painted and weathered with control linkages in place.

Hi again Bart

It's looking magnificent! I love the subtle staining, plus the mark at the water-line on the floats. I'd never have thought of adding the latter, but it really brings the model to life.

All the best

The model is pretty much finished - left to be done are float trestle and beaching dollies.

Bart this is beautiful to say the least, excellent results from a kit straight OOB too! I have this kit as well and one day I hope to take it on, but yours came out perfect.

Cheers

Thanks Dave
Two tips for your future build: 1. put some weight to the front of the floats (when displayed without dollies and trestles model is slightly tail heavy). 2. if you choose version with lozenge covered floats divide the decals into smaller parts (simply cut them into 3 pieces along longer axis) it will ease the pain of placing them over the grooved surfaces.
