Fellow modellers,
May I present my latest off the bench, the 1/72 Airfix Beaufighter TFX. Built for our club's (Illawarra Plastic Modellers Association) inaugural "Airfix Cup", to be held in conjunction with the NSW Scale Model Show. The details of the club and competition can be found here:
http://ipmamodels.net/IPMA-Events.html
It is the first 1/72 scale kit I have built in too many years to count. The contest builds were limited to a modified OOB ruling. So limited AM to be allowed.
I did add the Eduard Brassin 1/72 Beaufighter wheels, Super Fabric belts and rescribed some non existent ID lights. I used Uschi superfine rigging wire for the antenna.
On to the pictures:
Thanks for viewing and regards,

Great model Kent. Beautiful neat finish.
Airfix really pushed the boat out with this kit.
Would love to know how you did the exhaust collector ring.

Hi Stephen,
Thanks for the comments. I am pleased with the result and it was easier that I thought, just allow time for the various coats to set up.
The collector rings and exhausts were first painted with MM Aluminium enamel. Once dry they were airbrushed with a very very dilute mixture of MM flat black and Flat brown. This was misted on in a number of light coats until that "burned" metal look was achieved. Once this was dry, I used AK Interactive AK 088 worn effects to coat the entire surface. I let that set up for a day or so (I like to err on the side of caution) then lightly coated with Tamiya X1 (the only acrylic back I had at the time). Once again I let that settle and then took to the collector rings with an old paint brush with cut down bristles, a toothpick and tweezers to create the worn effects. Coated with Pledge aka Future and then MM Dullcote from the bottle through the airbrush as general finishing.
Regards,

Great result of the Beau, Kent. It's one of my favourite WW 2 aircraft and as Rowan said, the SEAC camo is sure one of the most attractive of them all. Congrats on that build!

Thanks very much,
From memory it was released late 2015? Not normally my scale but still very happy with the result.

That looks cool. nice one
I am currently building one of these, primarily so that I can use it to test the fit of the camo masks that I am producing
The model is excellent, the fit is exemplary. I too will be finishing it in this scheme and that means that I will be producing 2 schemes, as this scheme has the colours transposed!
