The Cold War between the Western and Eastern Blocs is generally considered to have lasted between 1947 and 1991. During that time, while there were no direct conflicts between the U.S. and the U.S.S.R., there were a large number of smaller wars that were more (Korea, Vietnam) or less (Indo-Pakistan, Arab-Israeli) connected to superpower confrontation. A relatively comprehensive list of these actions can be found
here.
This campaign would feature aircraft of the hot wars of the cold war. Any aircraft on any side would qualify but it would have to have served in actual combat during one of these conflicts, with appropriate markings, etc. Given the number of wars and lesser actions, this would be a pretty wide open campaign! What do you all think?

I think it's a good idea. I have several in the stack already, namely a Bay of Pigs Sea Fury and a couple of A-26's.
Best wishes,
Ian

Interesting idea. I have a couple of Bac Strikemasters and a Skyvan I have been thinking of building in Omani markings from the time of the Dhofar War. The Skyvans were even utilised as bombers to drop home made napalm on the communist guerrillas. Basically oil drums filled with a cocktail of aviation fuel, polystyrene and a few other ingredients. A jam jar would then be strapped to the side and the whole thing rolled into the back. Over the target area the loadmaster would insert an incendiary grenade into each jar, pull the pin and screw the lid down. The jar would prevent the priming handle from firing the grenade. Then he'd roll them out the ramp. When they hit the ground the drum would burst open and smash the jar. BOOM! Not a job I would have liked to do!

Anyone else?

Howdy Michael
This campaign is a great idea. It has something for everyone and then some. My only problem is I've signed up for campaigns to April 2017. I'll have to wait and see how I do with the other campaigns.
Take care,

Hi Michael,
I've got a Heller Ouragan that would fit in with a number of these conflicts - when is the proposed start/finish date(s)?

I don't have a kit at the moment but been interested in the Westland Wyvern and it would fit in with Suez Crisis and Operation Musketeer.

Well, that's better! Looks like we have 9 so far, only one more needed. I'd be looking at this one starting in July and going through January but I could slip it a month or so if that's what everyone wants.

I'm definitely in with an Omani Strikemaster.
I have the olde Matchbox and Airfix kits in the stash, but I'm tempted to get the new Sword kit for the build and pinch the ordnance from the other two.
That way I can build the Airfix as a regular T5 and just build the Matchbox oob for nostalgia.

Well we certainly seem to have gone over the required number, so this campaign has been APPROVED! It will run from 1 July, 2016 through 1 January, 2017. You can go
here to see the rules and enlist. A fairly comprehensive list of wars and actions that qualify can be found
here but I'm always willing to consider others that don't appear there.
Should be interesting and fun!

I like the ribbon. Count me in with a Hobbycraft 1/48th Scale Sea Fury from the Bay of Pigs Invasion. Photo to follow later.

Hi all,
i maybe misread the war related list, but i did not see the algerian war (for Algeria independance) which occured from 1954 to 1962 beetween France and FLN (algerian national liberation front).
So, is this war available for the campaign ?
If yes, i would join with this very old Heller kit which my sweet wife brought back yesterday from her "girls antiques shopping day" !

cheers

Nico,
Well, it IS Wikipedia, after all. I certainly think the Algerian War should be included so, if you're brave enough to build that one, go for it! And welcome aboard!
