May I present my rendition of Airfix's recent release of the 1/48 scale BP Defiant. Finished in one of the kit schemes of an aircraft from 264 SQN, RAF in Suffolk, 1940. The level of detail OOB is excellent and provides a great start if you wish to add more details such as Eduard PE, Brassin exhausts and Master Barrels as I have used. The "A" scheme was done courtesy of Miracle Paint Masks excellent camouflage masking set and my thanks to Mal for making an excellent and easy to follow set. The kit is well engineered and goes together well, however it lacks some details such as the underside flare chute covers and wing fuel filler points (the stencils are on the decal sheet). These are not hard to replicate and with a little work are easily added. The resulting model is an asset to any collection:

Kent, I can only repeat what the guys in the previous postings wrote. Your Defiant is really well done. I also followed your blog as I was interested how you would build this kit. You've done some more work on yours than I did on mine. My Defiant is also in the final stages of assembly but I have chosen decal version 2 and a closed turret. And no weathering of course. Wouldn't mind if Airfix presents us a Nightfighter Defiant next year. Parts for that are already included ....

You have done a nice job as well. I have another kit that I intend to do in an Australian night fighter scheme. Whilst the parts are there, the Mk.I was also utilised as a night fighter without radar prior to the Mk.IA which had the first radar equipped variant. Decals are already out there so in theiry you are good to go. But yes a dedicated night fighter version would most welcome.

Btw: Right position light is green or blue? What is correct? I'm finishing my Defiant right now.

I used green but I didn't actually check. I will have a look and get back to you. I do know Spencer Pollard used green in his build in the recent Model Airplane International edition build.

I just checked the Ansell book. It shows a green bulb inside a clear cover. The bulb is on the the inboard face of the recess, so it faces "out" and not "forward". So drill the smaller face of the clear part. The photo is from the night fighter airframe at the IWM so it should be correct.

Thanks Kent! I have finished my Defiant yesterday evening during ugly weather outside and made a decision for a green position light as on most aircraft.
