Hi All,

This time I'd like to show you my latest finished kit: Kawasaki Ki-61-I Tei Hien, wearing the markings of 55th Sentai, Sano airfield near Osaka, 1945 – the final stages of war. At that time, the unit participated in the battles over Japan, initially in the western, and then in the middle sector of defense.

Built OOB with photo-etched parts from Eduard in the cockpit and resin Pitot tube.

The markings are a combination of Montex masks and homemade decals (Hinomarus, black indication codes), for which I used a sheet of clear Techmod decal and a color laser printer.

Ki-61-I Tei is a variant of the Kai variant (Hasegawa JT14 kit), with a fixed tail wheel and a slightly longer nose than the standard Ki-61-I. In this version, there are practically no fit issues, which are headache for those who build other versions of Hien, that Hasegawa has released so far.

Far from perfect but I hope you like it.

Very well done - convincing natural metal finish.

Great result, Hubert! Is it the Hasegawa kit or Arii? The NMF is well done, also the weathering looks not over done.

Some years ago I've built also a 55. Sentai Hien out of the Hasegawa kit. Not in NMF but in that brownish camo for which I used RAF Dark Earth .... Today I know it is not the correct colour. Should be more olive, close to RAL 6014. Need to build another Ki 61

Happy modelling!

Many thanks Gents.
It's a Hasegawa's kit. Arii's kit, as far as I am concerned, is much simpler and lacks the finesse of detail apparent in the Hasegawa's kit.
By the way it is a real "shake and bake" kit. Highly recommended.

Kendzior,

I think you built a wonderful and authentic Ki-61. I should build one in 1/48.
