Lars welcome! Glad to have you on board. It doesn't hurt to have two of one aircraft in the campaign as you'll both approach it differently. Besides yours is 1/48 and Jeff's is 1/72 I'm interested in seeing which camo scheme you opt for and how you work with alllllll that resin.

Looking good Gazza! I usually replace the prop shaft with brass and aluminium tube, the brass fitting inside the aluminium. Works pretty well and it's more resilient than the plastic offering.

Chris,
Great idea! Too bad I've already glued the prop on. The propeller boss didn't have a base anyway. It's just a hollow cone.

I just finished priming it...black.

This is the current state of my SMER kit. Can I use it for this campaign?

Sure thing Brent we want to encourage the completion of kits and you still have quite a ways to go welcome aboard!

Somebody did a blog on this kit a year or so ago. I think the whole engine and cowl area were really bad.

Had a bit of a disaster with the P39. Had a shelf collapse over where I had it sitting

So moving on I have picked this up cheap; Special Hobby's 1/48 Fiat G.55 Centauro. An impressive aircraft by all accounts.

Well that positively sucks Linus! Sorry to hear about your shelving mishap. I thought I was the only one that had stuff knocked off walls? LOL The G.55 will be a most welcome addition to the campaign I look forward to your build.

This will be my entry for the GB. Picked it up for 5$ and thought it was a great bargain. And boy was I wrong....flash, gaps, broken parts, broken AND missing parts

So this build would be more of a test - of my patience. Lets see how long I last before I reach for the hammer

Raj,
You're a brave man. Landing gear parts can be replaced by a base. Other parts...might doom a build.

I wish you luck!

Hi Raj you can do it! Not an easy kit as it's aged it has developed issues but then haven't we all?? Look forward to your build well at least till the hammer falls.

Hi Jan an extension is certainly a probability we have a little over three weeks left to run. Your kit would be a welcome addition to the campaign we'll ask the question of Michael closer to the time. So please hop on board and get a building!

Hi Jan looks really good! What's the base kit? Is it one of Eduards own or is it Italeri's or Tamiya's?

Hi Chris,

It's a Hasegawa mold, i must say i think it's a bit soft detail. Eduard gets it stuff literally from anywhere.

Well after about a month of life work to pay some bills. I am back to my Ro.57.
I decided to try a different painting style. I sprayed the primer, pre-shaded and then base coat of Italian sand. Instead of masking I decided to try using 3M Poster tack. I made small balls and applied them to the model then change their shape. I hope that when I then applied the Verde Mimetico II it would give softer edges and I would save some time no having to hand airbrush.
This is where I am at now.

Jeff,
That's gonna look cool. I'm hoping some day to master the smoke ring camo without decals.

Hi all,
This model is one of those where everything goes wrong. Even to a giant bead of sweat rolling from my forehead onto the model while I'm airbrushing it.

But. I. Will. Finish. It.

Some painting. My color modulation on top didn't go so well.

I really like how the ubiquitous white band offsets the dark Oliva Scuro 2. So, I added a bit on the propeller boss.

Now for details, decals, and weathering.

Still a good looking model Gaz, you could always modulate the paint after the fact like I did. I can't wait to see what you do with it buddy! Love the airframe you chose even if the kit was something of a devil to build and detail.

Gaz,

Even with all the problems it looks like it's coming along really well.

Here is where I am at now.
Just need to clear coat and decal next.

I saw over on STORMO website they call this camouflage "poached eggs" scheme.

Jeff,
That looks awesome. Too bad the Italians didn't catch on to powerful engines until it was too late.
