I feel your pain re the tail wheel, same thing happened to me while I was priming, unfortunately I lost it. long story short, replaced from an unbuilt kit, modified as as you have done, and purchased a brassin set for the unbuilt kit.
I'm following with interest as I'm currently doing a wheels up version of the E7 trop.

I wanted the splotches to be as close as possible to the real plane, so the freehand job (and more fun ), which of course produce some overspray. I will enhance some of the paler ones before decalling.

I wasn't able to find any tropical German pilots/personnel in 1/48, so I will use this "standard" one from ICM. Maybe some small modification, but the detail is very good.

Light chipping (Vallejo aluminium) and wash (AK Afrika Korps wash). Rivets are very subtle, not heavy, and visible at close distance, which is very nice

Venelin, your Emil comes along really well. The blotches look very realistic, far better than on my desert E-7 I've built a few years ago.

for the blotches, it really helped me my Infinity CR Plus with 0.15mm nozzle and thinned paint at low pressure

the tropical Luftwaffe schemes are very attractive, you should try one

Exhaust stains, some dust and oil streaks, especially on the belly, because of the airflow generated by the propeller.
