There was with a certain amount of apprehension when I finally got around to applying the washable white.
In the end it was a piece of cake, and I've got the look I was trying to go for.
Time to apply some more yellow and the fuselage decals and start the weathering process.
The washable white is surprisingly durable, in that it doesn't lift with tape, but you can wet it and scratch it up a bit with a tooth pick, and obviously giving it a good scrub with water and a brush or cotton bud wears it down naturally.
If you want chipping then you'll need a chipping fluid layer, and if you're doing that then you could just go for any type of white paint.
Anyway, glad to have this bit of the project behind me, even though I made more of a big deal about than it needed to be.
regards.

Hi Spud, beautiful build thus far! I had the same issues with the MG tray and rear wing/fuselage join. Like you I managed to figure out how to make the gap go away with the MG tray. I opted to deal with the step at the rear wing/fuselage because your intelligent idea di not occur to me; thank you for the tip! I like the whitewash as well. I have always wanted to build either an aircraft or a tank with a degraded whitewash on it, but I was always too afraid of making an irreversible mistake. This product sounds like the ticket though.

Getting close to finishing.
This build has been used to try some different techniques and push myself. So I subjected myself to some tedious masking. The results were hit and miss, the underside and vertical surfaces were quite satisfactory, but the upper horizontal surfaces were too subtle to notice and I chose not to pick my battles and leave it at that.
Next the frustrating task of connecting and aligning the undercarriage and wheels. Frustration levels were slightly alleviated by commandeering some of my Son's Lego as a jig.
cheers.

Spud,
Just read through your build and you're doing one heck of a job. The build to date really looks quite good.
To me, the overall visual presentation is the most important aspect of the build. I'm really liking your winter wash scheme as it's rather uncommon, plus it's done quite well. the Washable white is something I really have to try as it seems to have quite a few possibilities.

Hi Joel, thanks for the comments.
I'm finding little frustrations building up as I try and complete some of the finishing touches. For example, I've just lost the brass pitot tube into the interior of the wing. .
Really dumb, had the wing vertical when I went to test fit it, then...let go and down it went, never to be seen again.Facepalm.
Time to take some deep breaths and give it some space.
cheers.

Spud,
Been there and done that, and worse. such is the life of a plastic scale modeler.

Hi Spud
The masking may be "tedious" - but it's really effective! A worn temporary winter finish is a real challenge (I'm facing a classic "Do I want to go there?" conundrum on just that at the moment! ) and you've done a fantastic job that I'll undoubtedly refer to for inspiration in future (OK - pinch ideas from! ).
All the best

Hi Rowan, thanks for the comments.
Always helps when the tedium pays off, and now I've done it once it won't be such a gamble for next time.
As for your winter finish conundrum, I'd naturally encourage you to do it. While that was the main motivator for this project, it turned out to be quite easy and fun, you just have to work out the order of decals and secondary painting.
Enjoying your A4 build btw.
regards.

With weathering done and a replacement pitot tube sourced, I'm finally ready to put this one on the shelf and clear the bench.
Thanks for the comments along the way, I'm now wondering what to tackle next, I do have some 1/144 hanger queens that could use some attention.
Regards.

Thanks Ernest, much appreciated.
I almost want to start the other one I have, to lock in some lessons learnt...almost.

Spud,
Just a 1st class build all the way. Your winter wash scheme turned out perfectly, and out of the few I've seen, it's by far the best to date.
