HI Everybody,
I haven't done a blog on here in quite a while. I've decided to do one on a completely (new to me) air-frame. I've built a few of most everything else in my lifetime, but never an Me-410. So... here we go:
The interior:
After seeing how small the exposed area of the landing gear wells would be I decided that any effort there would be a waste of time:

There are some heavy details on the wing. Particularly a bunch of cloth circles that cover hardpoints. These I sanded down.... there'll be more on the stabilizers.
I'm doing mostly OOB here... I've heard that the spinners are stubby, so I'll see how they look when I get there. If it's not too bad I'll leave em' as-is. But if they bug me, I'll work something out.
Thanks for looking!
Gaz

Gary! The 410 really is a looker! I've done two 110:s but never a 410. Good work on the cockpit but I don't think you should be scared of a bit of drybrushing, subtly carried out it will pop the details without washing out the colours. You can even selectively drybrush each different colour area with lighter versions of the base colours if you feel ambitious

Niceeeeee Gaz! I love the Me410 and the Me210 as well it's those rear barbettes that do it I think. I built the Frog kit as a youngster and have liked it ever since. I have a couple of Promodeller versions to build but I'm looking for the Meng kit at a more reasonable price than the LHS has it at ($134 NZD!!!!).
I'm really lookng forward to your build buddy! Are you intending to run a wash through out the cockpit? And I concur with Magnus subtle dry brushing will really make that detail pop visibley especially if you modulate the colour a'la Steve's F104 build (the build is a stunner).

Colin,
Thank you!
Magnus,
Thank you! Thanks for the tips! I did a selective dry brushing later in the day, but I don't think I'll do too much more.
Chris,
Thank you! I did an acrylic wash earlier, and I've since closed up the fuselage. So I think I'm done in there. This interior gave me a chance to try some very recently learned technique and I put a lot more effort in than in any other previous interior.
The 210 and 410 have always looked futuristic to me. With the engines far forward and the unusual canopy framing and shape...and the barbettes, it really looks different from any other machine.
I bought mine off EBAY, but finding one cheap isn't very easy. They all seem to be around the 80$AUD mark. My LHS prices have gotten so high that the only time I buy kits there is when someone in the family gives me a gift voucher.

Gaz,
You can find a good replacement for those spinners. Quickboost has some very good Me 410 spinners that are drop fit. I have the Monogram/Revell 410 (a thread is somewhere in Aeroscale) that got shelfed last year after completing the cockpit. On this kit the spinners are far too blunt so I grabbed those from Quickboost and they are a beauty.
Very nice cockpit there :-)
Cheers

Pedro,
Thank you for the suggestion. I started work on the kit spinners yesterday, lengthening them a little. If I can't get the look I want, I'll try the Quickboost spinners.

Nice start so far , looking forward on your next up-date . I have two in the stash .
The price I paid for the ones I have in the stash , I won't be investing in any aftermarket stuff so I also curios on how the spinner turns out .

HI Terri,
Thank you very much! As I'm at home watching football and modelling, you won't need wait too long for the update.
Here we go:
I got the engines in yesterday. There are no locator pins for the engines. They sit on a couple of raised ridges, but I wasn't sure of their placement. One thing I really hate is when I go to put on the spinner and it's not aligned properly.

Yesterday I also added two thin layers of card to the the joint between the bottom of each spinner and it's base plate.

I also worked on the weapons systems. I replaced some of the plastic barrels with 1mm copper tube.

The bomb bay could also be used to house additional forward firing armaments.

Thanks for looking!

Good progress so far, Gaz! Will stay tuned to see how it turns out. To be honest I didn't know Meng had this kit out. I always think they just do armor ....
I have build the old Revell/Monogram kit years ago as one of my first airbrush attempts. In those days it turned out quite well but today I wouldn't want to show it on epos anymore ....
Happy modelling!

Hi Gaz
A great choice of kit and nicely executed. The little extras and modifications you are making look like they will turn a good kit into a great model.
Happy modelling,
Steve.

Torsten,
Thank you! Meng has three versions out, so you have a few nice choices.
Steve,
Thank you! I don't mind a few little adds now and again.
Everyone,

Gary,
great build and thread as usual!
Very nice additional work and solutions for the issues.
Good idea with the prop shafts and the wheels. The pit and the WGr's looking pretty fine.

Thank you, Thomas!
I may have shortened the oleos a bit too much. I had just enough space to get the tires (which might be just a little large) and the landing gear cover on.
