I have been following this thread for a while. Like Pete it's been a while since I built a plane. The last jet was a Marine scooter. I have the venerable Tamiya Marine F4J in 1/32 scale in the stash with some odds and ends collected over time.

cheers

I bit the bullet and went ahead and bought the BIG Revell F-4G. Only place I could find it was Amazon. I would have preferred my LHS as they've found the last couple of months tricky financially. They couldn't get one in though (bought an AFV Club Israeli Centurion from them instead).
Have to say that it's one heck of a kit for under £50! Don't think I've ever seen so much plastic.

I'm in.

Since years I've got the Academy/Eduard kit "Good Morning Da Nang" (and good night my mind) in 1:48 - the comprehensive decal sheets are anything but encouraging to start with this kit.

Approxomately 400 decals should be applied in their places.

I don't know if I'll finish it at all but it might be a good opportunity to put it on my desk.

Well for sure, that is a real bargain. Lucky You.
Will be nice to follow this one.
I have a Revell 1/32 stalled for the moment.
A lot of work to get it to my standards.

Thank you Stephen/Robert. As it was so cheap, I may have to add a few after market options.

At 1/32 some good quality AM bits would really make it impressive.
Me, I might do something about the seatbelts and leave it at that. My only problem is finding somewhere to put it once built!

Stephen, that is my problem also. I am looking at the box among all the other 1/48 kits and it sticks out a good 3".

I'm sure we can figure something out. Always a bookcase or something we can stick it on!
Along with the Polar Lights 1/350 USS Enterprise, it's easily the biggest kit I own.

Most of my kits are boxed up in the garage ready for the shows....which haven't happened this year. I have a 1/32 Tornado which I just finished sitting on the bench which is taking up all the room. 1/32 is big but they are impressive. Love seeing them at the shows and seeing how much after market stuff I can see on them.
For the Phantom I will defo go for cockpit and seats. Maybe wheels and lifting surfaces. Any suggestions on whats available guys?

I've seen some metal pitot tubes by Master Models. I might pick these up as they're cheap and much more durable than the kits plastic bits. They're always the first parts to break!

Magunum! The Wild Weasels in Desert Storm by Brick Eisel is a great read for anyone interested in the F-4G. A lot of information can be gotten from that book.

Aftermarket: I found out that the exhausts from Aires, made for the Tamiya F-4E, too small in diameter, fit the Revell F-4F(in my case), so it should yours as well. Not familiar with Revell's cockpit for your F-4G, I replaced mine with a full resin drop-in from Legend. Still not ok but 80% done.
For the landing gear and bays I copied Tamiya moldings. Accurate and easy to do for the Revell's, which are lacking any detail.
You can buy seamless intakes from a couple of companies(GT Resin(not cheap)has a good set.
Rest is more like the bomb load and maybe decals, that's an after market to dress up the build plane, very personal I guess
Landing gear bay front:
.
Just copy cat Tamiya. Note that the Revell bay is way too shallow. So for optical reason you have to make some adjustments.

Not ready yet with this one, so a lot will be added later on.
Think you might go for some build logs, watching others dealing with this kit. Looks very promising from the box art, but... it's a Revell.

Good luck with your build, hope to see some nice progress and pictures.

I know it's early to ask, but may I have an extension? I'd like it on the front end. I have everything and I'm ready to start now.

Phil, there is no problem. This campaign will start 8/1/2020.

Are you building for the Naval aviators postage stamp campaign?

Ha! I get it, you want it to start sooner! Sorry, but that one I'm gonna have to deny. Only a little over a month, hang in there!

Foul! Foul!

Seriously, looking at all the kits folks have lined up for this has me pretty excited. I've even been browsing online for a 1/48 phantom. I need to resist that!

Phil, it looks like I misread your post, Sorry!

I plan on letting others start for me to follow since jets have not been my focus.

Thanks Robert, good to know about the Tamiya based exhaust and afterburners fitting the Revell kit. That is a must now, and cockpit too.

Thanks

Boy, this one sure has some keen modelers! We're getting there folks, just a little over a month. Nice to see the enthusiasm!
