Wow, I think I've completed 8 models so far this year, Quite possibly the most I've finished in any year since High School. I guess some thanks to Covid . But, Having campaigns to motivate me is really helping. I do notice though that there are very few new campaigns in the que. So I'd like to throw out some I ideas ans see what sticks.
Manufacturer -- Looks like we've done Hawker, de Havilland and a couple of Grumman builds. We should give someone else a chance.
Molder -- We've done 10 Airfix campaigns, a Frog and a Matchbox. How about one of the other molders; Hawk, Heller, Hasegawa, Tamiya, there's plenty of choices. This could also open up cross site opportunities as most of these molders do more than planes.
Pearl Harbor 80 -- Is it too early to start planning for December of 2021? Planes, ships and mini subs?
Trainers -- A break from OD and dull grays, bright yellows, reds and whites.
Aggressors -- Again a break from dull camos, some really interesting color schemes on otherwise drab planes.
Recon -- Anything purpose built or modified to carry a camera.
Any one interested or have any other ideas?

How about a "No wheels" campaign? Aircraft with snow ski's or floats. Airplanes that originally had wheels but were converted to water or snow.

How about a 'Swords into plowshares, and plowshares into swords' Campaign. Civilian aircraft drafted into military service and vice versa.
Can be WW1 aircraft adapted for barnstorming, or metereological uses. Civilian racers drafted as scouts (Sopwith Scneider for example).
WW2 - Avro Ansons drafted as trainers. Civilian airliners drafted for military use - Douglas Dc-3'to C-47's and then back again, or Heinkel 111's. Spitfires/Hurricanes used as racers post-war. Noorduyn Norseman's converted from bush planes to military transports, and then back again.
Or aircraft built specifically for military and civilian/commercial use (Kenya has adapted an 'Air Tractor' from agricultural use to reconnaisance/border patrol, eqippped with missiles)
It has a wide range of possibilities I think.

This sounds like a good thread. Let's see what people come up with and if enough start to latch on to a particular idea.
Have at it!

Just had another thought:
Double Nuts: CAG Aircraft of the U.S. Navy
Lots of variety, lots of color. What do people think about that one?

Well, Trainers picked up one like.
I've got one Glider, a Beaver with skis, a couple of float planes and several airliners in military garb.
How about?
X-Planes -- Not just experimental planes (X-1, D-588) but first offs (XP-47, XFY, XFV, XP-59) whether it turned into a production model or not.
Battles -- We've done a Guadalcanal build, and a BoB campaign is in progress, What about Midway, Coral Sea, Battle of France, or even the Atlantic? Some of those could go cross site for ships and armor.
Commercial Carriers -- We did Pax and Pallets a while back, how about another airliner or cargo plane campaign?

Hmm, slipped one in while I was typing. I've got a Special Hobby SB2U-1 Commander's Plane, it predates "Double Nuts" but it fits the concept. Might have some others, just don't have all the decal options quickly available.
Ooh, I see that I have a lot of float planes, too.

Michael,
If I may, could I give a couple of suggestions for more general campaigns. I think that way more people can participate.
Vietnam, Wars in Africa after 1945, russian aircraft, etc.

What about these no wheels? How no wheels should they be? I think I have ~12 1/2 candidates, LOL.
2 PBYs (one is a PBY-5A, floats and wheels)
Vega Float Plane
AN-2 Colt Float plane
A DHC-2 Beaver with Skis
Grumman Albatros
Grumman Widgeon
Grumman Duck
Curtis Seamew
Vought Kingfisher
PBM Mariner
Wright Flyer
XF-85 Goblin
and for 1/2 credit, X-15 (main gear are skids, but it does have a nose wheel)
And that doesn't even get into the helicopters

Howdy Y'all
I don't have any ideas but I'd vote for:
Gliders,
Russia,
Pearl Harbor 80, and a
Tamiya or Hasegawa campaign.
Take care,
Don "Lakota"

I think trainers is a good shout. You can have everything from single engine props, to jet trainers, to two seat fighters. Lots of nations, lots of colour schemes, lots of eras.

The Malta Run might be interesting - ships and planes from the Malta convoys and their opponents in '41 and '42.
Russia would be cool.
Something on the Indo-Pakistani conflicts might bring out some interesting subjects.

I second a Malta campaign. I did start a themed build myself here about the campaign. Bought a bunch of kits and decals too.
Then c#*ked up the paint job on the second build, a 109. Kinda lost my mojo after stripping it caused even more problems.
A build campaign would get me back on track.

Those funky Italian planes with the even funkier camo might be interesting and challenging.

What do you think about:
- a nose art campaign
- mud movers (aka air support planes)
- eyes in the skies (aka spy or observation planes)
- desert storm 30th anniversary

Well I might have some nose art candidates. but I'm not sure I want to crack open any 4 engine projects.
Mud Movers, maybe F-15E, A-1, A-6, A-7, A-10, AV-8
Photos, plenty from there F-5 Mustang, RA-5C, even an SR-71
Desert Storm, I might be a little thin there maybe an F-15, A-10, A-7, F-16. But DS decals might be lacking.
Malta is a totally different animal for me. You guys are gonna have to tell us more. I think a Hurricane Mk. II is my only hope of a candidate.

Agreed, some of the tri-motor bombers are very cool. I recommend Italeri's Cant Z506. It has markings for an aircraft that was hijacked by an RAF Beaufort crew. They'd been picked up by the aircraft and then forced the crew to fly to Malta. It was then repainted in RAF markings and used for ASR.

Hi All,
Mark, good thread!
I'm always up for a trainer build, or a recon one.
I've noted that we've not done a "Japanese" group build in quite a while....

If you do a Malta campaign, you definately want to get the Model Shipwright guys involved.
Not so much for the Armorama guys to get involved with, although there is this famous photo of a Beaufort being towed by a Matilda tank in the "stonewall" camo

Yeah, Malta convoys would be more of a ships and planes thing. But there might be some interesting opportunities for tanks stored on ships? Actually I'm not sure about that - did armor for N Africa get staged through Malta?

Lots of good ideas! I thought I'd subscribed to this one but somehow it didn't take and I missed a bunch.
I like the Malta idea, though it seems a little narrow. Open it up to a Mediterranean campaign, maybe?
We did have a trainer campaign recently, ended in July of 2019.
And Mark, I think the "air group" concept in the Navy started in 1937, and I'd picture the Double Nuts campaign going right back to the beginning. So your SB2U would fit right in!

Most of the allied shipping went straight to ports in Egypt like Alexandria. Malta was really too small and didn't have the facilities or space for armour depots.
The Malta convoys were carrying food, fuel, ammunition and everything else needed to keep the island and population surviving against pretty intense bombing raids.
Later in the campaign it was used as a base of operations for the air campaign against Sicily and the Italian mainland. The USAAF would also build an airfield on Gozo, operating Spitfires and I believe A-20's.
A site wide Mediterranean campaign gets my vote. Lots of possibilities for some really interesting builds with this one.
