I'm in. I just ordered my TBF-1c Avenger. I decided to go mostly OOB. I did order some little things I wanted to try like realistic tires and a torpedo, but thats it. I figure I will have my hands full with my first 1/48 aircraft. Thanks for taking the helm Penny

Well, count me in too

!
As I said earlier, I'm making a
WWII US Navy Grumman F6F-3/5 Hellcat(Academy 1/72 scale). Haven't decided on whether it'll be a 3 or 5 version, but I'm planning to do some R&D on this

. Looking for some good sites which give a good reference.
BTW, do we need to make a display base also? Or is it just OK if the plane is done? (Personally, I'd love to make one, but don't have that much exp in making diorama bases. Oh well, one's gotta start somewhere, sometime

)!
Good Luck, and let's have fun

!

Count a newbie in Penny! Just bought Academy's 1/72 F14-A Tomcat last night. It will be built OOB. The kit only provides decals for VF-51 so I'll stick with them. Aftermarket decals are hard to get in this part of the world

Same question as Bytepilot - your rules have not excluded jets and helos from the original discussion. Also era has grwon from WW2. Which is find with me, since I have helos and Golden Age aircraft out the gazoo :-) (Unbuilt that is)

I'm in, either with a Hasegawa 1/48 F4U-4B or a Tamiya F4U-1C.
But Hasegawa and Tamiya don't make 1B's and 1C's, I hear you ask . . . .
As Dr. Evil says . . . . riggghhhhhhhht

I haven't built an airplane for a while, either, but you can include me, too. I found the Accurate Miniatures 1/48 Avenger at the local hobby shop (well actually, there are two complete kits in the box!) and will attempt to build it. May have a few questions for you professional aircraft modelers, though...........

I havn't. It's been probably 16-17 years, of course I just came back from a 15 year layoff from models so I am sure I would have, just havn't

I'm in.
Time to kick the tires and light the fires, 'ol Yoda!
I'll probably go with an F-14 or F-18.... unless I see a really cool prop plane at the hobby store!

Count me in with Swords 1/72 F8F Bearcat. The kit includes all kinds of nice resin cockpit detail and should build up into a nice little kitty.
Glad to see this group built taking off :-)

You know you can count me in. Mine will be either a Tamiya 1/48 F4u-1 in Jolly Rogers markings or a Revell Germany 1/32 SDB-5E. Haven't decided yet.

After looking through some old 'tech files' I had when I was an even younger kid, I've decided to go with an F-11 Tiger. If I can find a model of it, that is...

Um... yeah. I've just check the three biggest online stores and here's what I've found - Nothing! Absolutely NOTHING!

Bummer. That F-11 really looks cool too....
Oh well... I guess this means I get to go to the hobby shop to search for a plane! :-)

Well, I just got back from the hobby shop... I was rather light on cash, so I decided to try and find an 'inexpensive' model. I looked over the selection for a bit and in the end decided on, get this, the Testor's F2H-2 Banshee. Methinks it would've been easier to buy a $40 top o' the line F-18.
Thick plastic,
extremely basic detail, gaps-o-plenty. Oh well, the cockpit should be the easiest part...
BECAUSE THERE ISN'T ONE !!!!!!!!! Hey, whaddaya want for 8 bucks?
Now that I've told you, there's no turning back. The deadline for finished airplanes is October 31st, 2002. That F2H-2 Banshee is going to be finished by then. And it's going to look good. Call me 'Mr. Determined'.
Time to get to work...
