Hello !
I've seen this website's name before, but I thought you were only armor here. Looks like I was wrong !
I build 1/48 WW II aircraft only. I'm also hopelessly addicted to photoetch. My favorite camo to paint is found on Luftwaffe birds, and I usually build a few at a time. My current project is something I call "Fly by Night." I'm building three nightfighters: Trimaster Me 262A-1a, Dragon Me 262B-1a/U1, and a ProModeler Ta 154 with Eduard photoetch. The Trimaster/DML/Dragon Me 262 kits are my favorites, and these are my 13th and 14th.
I thought I'd share some pics of recent builds of mine. This is Hasegawa's Ar 234B-2, with Verlinden and Eduard details, Squadron vac canopy, and Eagle Strike decals.
This is Hasegawa's Hurricane Mk. 1, with Aires cockpit and Eduard flaps. The camo is freehand with Model Master enamels.
Thanks for letting me share some of my work with you ! I look forward to "meeting" you !

Hi Pixilater, and welcome to armorama.
Really impressive work you've done on the cockpit of the 234, and the undercarriage of the Hurricane, wow. How did you do that ??

Thank you, mossieramm !
I found lots of good reference pics on the internet for the Ar 234. I added wiring and hoses from wire and solder.
The Hurri wheel well was painted with Alcad II Aluminum, Dark Aluminum, and White Aluminum. I used a mixture of RLM 66 and black for the wash, and I lightly drybrushed it with Model Master chrome silver.
Thanks again, I'm glad you like them !

Amazing, I was looking at that cockpit of the Arado and rendered speechless... I keeps amazing me how much detail you 'Whingies' manage to cram into a 1:48 model. Truly impresive.
I second Grumpy, show us more..
Cheers

All I can say is that I am really envious
That cockpit looks just awsome - the detail with the gun is great.

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome and kind words !
A couple of you asked to see some more, so here are a few pics.
Accurate Miniatures A-36 Apache with Eduard photoetch and dropped flaps:
Hasegawa Ju 87G-2 with Eduard photoetch:
Hasegawa Ki 100 with Eduard Photoetch:
Dragon Me 262 Mistel from the box:
Hasegawa Bf 109G-2 with Verlinden cockpit:
Trimaster Me 262 from the box with Eagle Cals markings:
And here are a couple shots of one of my in-progress builds, Trimaster's Fw 190D-9. I cut open the wheel well and added an engine from a derelict Ta 152 kit:
My apologies if I've included too many pics, but I like photography almost as much as building ! Thanks for letting me share them with you !

Welcome to Armorama Pix!
Hey everyone...we are indeed in for a treat. I've seen Pix's builds over on the FSM boards and I'm thrilled that he's going to join us over here as well.
As you all can see he has a gift with all things 1/48th and in particular Luftwaffe paint schemes....
Welcome to Armorama Pix!

Welcome Bill, a pleasure to have you drop in. I hope you stay for a long time
Some very impressive models, the Ar 234 cockpit is awsome, I know where to ask for info when I finally get around to building one (haven't got the kit yet). I particularly like the winter scheme on Rudels G-2, it's the scheme I have planned on doing for my G-2. Again I will be badgering you for info when I get around to doing it (probably 2008 ).
It's great to have someone who is heavily into Luftwaffe camo. I like doing the schemes but I'm no expert. I'm doing Tamiya's FW 190D-9 as an online build at the moment and I have a Mistel in progress. I'm planning a He 219 next.
No not to many pics at all, the more the merrier, especially when they look like this. I see you have found the Model of the Month, which we only started in Jan and had to skip Feb. I hope we will be seeing these and other great models entered into this little monthly thingy

Welcome to the 'A' Pixilator, you are going to love it here!
Those are some amazing models you have there, personally i think you should do a bit more weathering, but that is my opinion. Do you mind me asking a few questions?
What type of airbrush do you use?
What brand paint do you use?
What are those drop tanks with pillows attached (on outer hard-point) on the Ar-234?
How long have you been modelling?
cheers
Philip

Thanks again, everyone ! I feel "at home" here already !
procrazzy - in answer to your questions:
I use a Badger 150 airbrush, and mostly use Model Master enamels and Alcad II metallics.
The devices on the 234's wings are RATO (rocket-assisted-take-off) units. These got the more heavily-laden bomber off the ground more quickly. The early jets were slow to accelerate, and these saved fuel. They were jettisoned after takeoff, and the parachutes at the nose saved them for re-use. I Photoshopped my Arado into this take-off scene:
I built as a kid from the early sixties 'till early seventies. I returned in '93.
I choose not to weather my builds. To me, it's a product of the environment. Since I don't do bases or dios (no room for that), a weathered model looks out of place on a clean shelf to me. Kind of like a clean model in a wartime dio, but in reverse. I have a "Grand Plan" of someday building a display that is a 1/48 museum, complete with placards, tile floors, and velvet ropes. Hey - we can all dream, can't we?
Thanks again !

I have dozens more, but this gives a little representation of what I like to do. I'll post more, if you like, at another time.

Bill, talking about dreaming, I model WWII, all types, all combatants and I intend to build at least one model of every aircraft to fly during the war :-) Am I dreaming?
I take your point about weathering, I weather mine for lots of reasons, one of them being that I like the challenge of it. I would certainly like to see your museum dia, should be something.
