Thought this would be fun. Which of the following planes had the most and the least air to air victories in Desert Storm

1. F-16
2. F-14
3. F-15
4. A-10
5. F-18

IF YOU KNOW THE ANSWER PLEASE DO NOT POST IT. I would like to see what people think off the top of their heads on this one.

So what do you think. Which on had the most and which one had the least air to air victories.

I'd have to say the F-16, just because it a lame excuse for a fighter aircraft

Kidding aside, I don't remember ever reading of an F-16 air-to-air victory in the Gulf. I know even the A-10s shot down some Iraqi helos.

Cheers,

I'll guess F-15 for the most...
...and A-10 for the least...

Spoken, I have.

The F-15 would have scored the most kills, with the least going to the F-16 - I don't recall anything being said about the -16 scoring until post-91.

Cheer,

I want the answer posted, just not right away. If we post the answer nobody will have a chance to guess. What do you say we wait until Saturday evening say about 5:00 eastern then you can post the answer. I can't stop you from posting it, just think it's more fun this way. Am I wrong on this? would you guys rather know the answer right away instead of playing along?

Is this only limited to US forces, or also foreign employed F-14/15/16/18?

Ok - My first thought was A-10 least, F-14 most. That's without research or even reading the posts.

Interesting.

A10 with air to air kills?? I would guess that would be the least.

Zach - Remember we are old farts and back in our day saying "you suck" was meant to be offensive. What a great world we live in now that's it's not. err.....

On the topic in general.... You mean we didn't destroy all Iraq's planes on the ground? I thought my memory was they tried to hide (or remove to Iran) all their A/C?

I thought It would be more fun to actually do it this way. I take some time and write down how many air victories each plane listed had, what date it was scored, and what weapon was used to make the kill.

Tomcat14, I only have published information on the aircraft I listed, no other countries or types of aircraft. If you know more than that maybe you can come up with a new question

I am not going to spoil it either but make a distinction between the Strike Eagle and the Eagle. They downed a flying/hovering BO-105 with an LGB. That was pretty amazing Revell/Monogram makes the kit with the correct decal.

One or two Saudi F-15s scored kills as well. I think those were the only foreign employed fighters to do so.

Well here is is. I was pretty suprised when I found out, thats why I asked everyone else what they thought. I know I am a little early, but I have to take off so I had to do it now.

Aircraft # of Kills
F-15C 36
TIE A-10A 2
TIE F/A-18C 2
F-14A 1
F-16 0

Here is a breakdown of the air-to-air victories by date, aircraft scoring the victory, weapon used, and what the shot down. This information comes from "Gulf War Debriefing Book" by Andrew Leyden and published by Hellgate Press. I hope everyone enjoyed this.

I know the first was a F/A-18 and thats the one that there is still controversy over if we left him behind because they never found the body.I also know that the British lost a solid amount of Tornados while strafing the Iraqi airfields. Our A-10's also took a pretty good beating.
