Hi guys,
I'm building a 1/48 P-400 Bell Airacobra by Eduard, but I don't want to do the camo and decals that came with the kit. Does anyone know where I can find British camo designs and decals for the aircraft.
Thanks for the help

Hi Spot,
What scheme are you interested in? The P-400 was delievered in standard RAF day fighter scheme of brown, green and sky. I believe all RAF fighters used the same pattern (though it could be reversed--mirrored as the RAF called it).
Some left over by the time RAF changed to green/gray were so painted.
What decals are you seeking? RAF or USAAC / USAAF?

Hey Fred,
Thanks for the paint scheme info. I was looking for RAF markings.

I was looking for a daytime or Tropical (if possible) RAF fighter scheme.

The British did not like the P-39 and after one or two missions from England they were removed from service and given back. The USAAF used P-39's in Africa and Italy. They flew with both tropical and temperate paint patterns.
Another option is the Free French were issued the P-39. Squadron in Action series and the Detail and scale books on the P-39 offer some good color plates/markings as well. Aeromaster decals makes a sheet that has North Africa US and French P-39's but both machines for those particular markings were "D" models and painted Olive Drab/neutral grey.
I know thats not what you wanted to hear but if really want to do a tropical pattern USAAF or Free French are the only options I am aware of.
Sincerely,
Brian

Thanks for the info Brian, although I'm somewhat disappointed I'll make do with your information.

Just glanced at prior post--saw some good info but didn't read in depth...
USAAF did have some P-39s in desert scheme of middlestone/earth/azure. Not sure if they were RAF or Du Pont colors. Otherwise, all North African P-39s I've seen were OD/gray.
I've seen some RAF day scheme green/gray/sky 39s, but think they were all used for training.

I think I'll try that desert camo scheme you suggested Fred. Brian's info suggests that the RAF didn't like the P-39. All my searching has proved him right so I'll try the desert camo with USAAF markings.
Thanks for the help guys
Ian
