Hi fellow bombs away folks, I decided to go ahead and prepose bombs Away to the campaign central command last evening. I hope that there is still intrest in the idea.

Due to a cat related cat-as-trophe the list of intrested members was lost prior to the proposal.

For thouse whom do not know of what I am rambling on about :

The mission is to build multi engine purpose built bombers.

Pre WW II to present
any Nation
1/72 scale and up
X factor # 1 Bomb bay doors must be opened.if the aircraft has internal storage of bombs.
X factor# 2 If the bomber you are modeling has pylons, crutches, braces
or other external storage a full weapons load must be present.

X factor is modelers choice .

ground vehicle such as bomb carts, fuel trucks and follow me jeeps are
okay as long as the are marked for a bomber squadron, staffel, or airdrome ( ig : 91 st bomb group 305 th bomber squadron )

dioramas and figures are welcome as well.

one medal to be given per member whom completes campaign.

thanks for your intrest Treecat

Hi Treecat!

I would join in with a SM 79 Sparviero... but I have other bombers in my stash as well.

Nice one Treecat

I've been meaning to check with you whether you'd submitted the campaign idea officially.

Count me in to try to contribute something - I've not decided what to build yet but, suffice to say, I've plenty to choose between.

All the best

Count me in for a RAF Boston Havoc.

Just some question about the X factors-thing...
Are they a 'must' or a 'plus'??
The Havoc kit has bomb doors, but no interior. If the bomb doors are open I have to make an interior than, I guess?

I'm up for this, my entry will be a Monogram 1/48 B-24, if I can get it re-scribed before January. If not then it will probably be a "Betty" If torpedo bombers are included?

Hi Mal

Surely the idea is to start re-scribing in January?! That's when the campaign will start... :-)

Hi all,

Although I'm in the carriers campaign which starts in January I would also like to partake in this campaign.

Hopefully either a Mosquito, Mitchell, Blenheim or FIAT Br.20 all of which are in my stash already just begging to be made.

Ciao

Is it strictly two engine bombers or are we going to allow single engine planes as well? Only reason I ask is I have a Japanese B7A2 Grace and B5N2 Kate that I would like to enter. They were topedo bombers so I figured I'd ask. Thanks. "Q"

Hi Mal,
Just pointing out the obvious but the "Betty" could carry conventional bombs as well, but you probably knew that already . I will be building the 1/48 Tamiya kit, which make have you got Mal.

Howdy Treecat,

Congrat's on taking the plunge and proposing this Campaign....best of luck with it!

I also agree with both Phil and Fred on this query tho'........

....."i notice that its for WW2 stuff onward, any chance of including first world war aircraft"........

Even tho I already have both a 1/48th scale B-17 {it's being built for a veteran I met who crashed his into an Italian mountainside during a late-war clandestine mission}, and a 1/32nd scale Mosquito {from Mexico} in the works, I would dearly love to entertain the idea of building a World War I bomber......
Especially since my personal tastes have run to much earlier stuff as of late........maybe something Russian....and in 1/48th scale?........any suggestions anybody?....

Tread.

I'm new to this site still and the concept of a group build, but I seem to see that the aircraft in question has to be "on" a diarama/base...kinda hard to see the good bits isn't it? Long ago{and that's no lie} I built a B-24 that hung from the ceiling and had the bombbay doors open and bombs "dropping" via fishing line. While I doubt I'm even close to this sites member's caliber of detailing and finishing, can my method be done, or would it be breaking the rules? ...I also used margarine container tops, cut to proper diameter, in place of the blades to simulate spinning props....but always seemed to have one engine down and blackened from being shot up.

Hello Bombers

I gotta do this fast as it's bed time.

TedMamere : One spicy italian sounds great !
Merlin : ready when you are !
JPTRR : orginal date included WW I if you and Treadhead can find purpose built WW 1 multi engine aircraft I'll gladly allow them when I seached GMW for these I couldnt find them so that was why the dates changed.
Red 4 : Just multi engined this time hope your still with us.
rvman : welcome
Puma112 : welcome
holdfast : I think that would come under exteral bomb load.
Littorio: Welcome and that's the spirt !
Olddragon: method of display is your choice.

I know there are a few others out there whom have intrest as well.

Too all I am deply honored by your willingness to undertake this mission.

Yep, but I have already started re-scribing it and I know that if I wait until January to continue, even using my eezee method, then it very likely wont get finished, even with the long build time.

I have always intended that when I build the Betty it should be as a torpedo bomber.

Treecat

No, the Betty carried it's torpedo internally.

Sorry Treecat I'm confused by this. Are you saying that with an internal bombload then the bomb bay doors must be shown open?
This is the part that makes it confusing:

X factor is modelers choice .

As it suggests I have an option?

Phil

The phrase is actually Pre WW II to present.
So this could be taken as from the "Wright Flyer",
Treecat?

So, If I can't start re-scribing before January then the B-24 is out, If a Torpedo bomber is out, then it will have to be a Mosquito Mk IV
