Hi all,

Has anyone of you ever dealt with the kit ?

I am currently building that model, and I experience some trouble fitting the main parts.

I'd also like to over detail the landing gear wells, and the bomb bays, because I'll show them while the aircraft is being loaded with GBU-31 JDAMS, fitted on the barrels supplied by Revell.

At the moment I only got the pit over, and the wells on the way... :

I'd appreciate to share with any one who buitlt the kit, any ad or tricky fit...

Thanks in advance

Richard

Two more shots...

And what I plan to load the beast with :

Any help or comment with the kit welcome

Richard

You know Richard, you really ought to give us a "how to" on the aluminium method you used on your B-29 model. I am still unsure how you did that.

BTW, your B-1 stuff looks good, but I have to ask... Why do you paint the details before painting the base coats on the other stuff? How dou you prevent the details from being "lost" when you paint the areas around them?

Hi Sean,

Emmmm............ What do you mean about the base coat after the details ? That base coat was sprayed on before the details were painted, either in the main gear well (white color) or in the cockpit (light grey).
The only base coat I'm used to deal with only after the assembly, is the generals', the camo one, and then the details are all hidden from the airbrush by tape or paper.

About my "how to" with the alu tape on the B29, I can think of a little article to put in my profile, if you are interested in it. I'll do that soon.

Best regards,

Richard

Well, when looking at your seats, I thought the light grey was the plastic color. Did not know that the light grey was the base coat color of the seats. Sorry.

I would like to see a write up on how you used aluminium to cover the B-29.

Hi,

As regards the B1B, I was wondering what color to use for the internal fuel tank in bomb bay number 3 ? I have read somewhere it is light green (in the kit notice), and a kit built in a french magazine shows it white...

Can someone help me ?

Thanks in advance,

Richard

Hi there !!!!

The Bone has gone a bit forward til last post,

now the cockpit and front part of the fuselage is over, probably some filling will be needed at the radome joint...

and the Shull24 Jdam ordnance are put together...

As well as the engine from Cutting Edge...

and the ECM decoy...

But the deepest work I did recently, concerns the rotative launchers, for the Revell parts are nice, naked but nice...

Here are my additions to them parts

Let me know...you know, comments and feelings !

BTW, I wish you all a Merry Xmas and a very Happy new year !!!!

Best regards,

Richard

Hi all,

Long time !

I have gone a bit forward with the kit, and as pictures are far better than a long speech, have a look at what I did since last post :

First, putty and sanding...

then a tank detailing in the rearward bay

putty and sanding again, but under the wings this time...

rear part of the rear bay

inside the bay...

200 rivets in here... who said 202 ?

The tank in

nearly ended rotary launcher

In place and now over

a 2 EUR coin will ease the sense of scale...

wings glued extended at the under fuselage half, as they almost always are on the ground, the 2€ coin was lost in the pixs so I put a 5€ bill for a scale ref

Huge kit huh ?

but with some poor fits...

This is where I am, and the building is still on !

Cheers,

Richard

Hi,

Here I come again, with the building getting farther...

I scratchbuilt uplifting parts in which the wings slide rearward :

the same area from rear :

bad seam on the aft fuselage parts :

same one underneath...

a bad seam indeed !

Tonight I'll deal with the vortex generators, pix will follow !

Cheers,

Richard

Keep notes on what you are doing. The tips and tricks and touch ups for this kits would make a very useful article.

Great work.

BTW, how many JDAMs are you fitting inside the bomb bays and where did you find that many resin ones?

Hi Jeff,

And thanks for your comment !

I will put only 2 or 3 JDAMs in a single bay in order to avoid the rotary launchers added details to vanish behind them bombs !

I got the JDAMS here : http://www.shull24.com
great great stuff ! very helpful !

Richard

I have to agree with Jeff. Looks like an interesting build. I can't say I have any experience with this kit, but while on operations down in the Big Rockpile, we often talked to these guys on the AN/PRC-117F.

Cheers

Hi,

Tonite I finished only ONE side with the vortex gens...
and while working I realized that 2 gens were missing on the sheet out of the necessary 11 per side. Nothing some styrene beam cant sort out !

More pix to come...

Hello !

The vortex generators on the right side are now done

Then I put the stabs with the angle they almost always show on the ground. This stabs position can be observed on many on duty shots

Next came the cockpit sub assembly to be glued with the main body, believe it or not, that was sport !

The parts do not fit well together to say the least and once I got em fitting good, I added Cyanoacrylate glue. It helped maintain the best fit I could reach, but one can see the bad seam !

Not a shake'n make, but that's part of the fun !

Richard

Hi all,

Nacelles on the go ! After a stop (a little while) at the putty workshop...

BEFORE sanding

AFTER sanding

Front view

Water drops showing inside are remnants of the "soapy cleaning bath" I always put parts that underwent a sanding in (I always do that to get paint ready clean parts)

More to come soon

Hi all,

I recently dealt with the rear of the nacelle (the left one at the moment), in order to have it looking like the real thing :

The details to add remember at anytime of the progress how huge this kit is...

More pics to come !

Richard

Hi !!!

You'r right MightyRhinox ! I'll get my hands on that book asap !

As regards the model, I dealt with the wings ends position lights, that I had to move... from the hollow engraved location to the black outlined

Calling for a little easy surgery ! Done !

Looks better now (to me)

Then a photo showing a detail I observed on some Bones pics

adds a nice color touch to that black console top !

Cheers,

Richard

Hi all,

Thank you Jean-Luc ! Tu ne crois pas si bien dire à propos de bombe ! (You bet it's a Bomb, great transition !)

Awaiting warmer temperatures to paint its gunship dress to my bone, I deal with various details including the Jdams and foresaw 2 of them to fit in bombbay one, which I did this week-end :

Ain't this bombbay got a better "aggressive" look now ?

Cheers,

Richard
