Hi there I have just read with interest the December issue of Scale Aviation Modeller International, specially Mal Mayfield's letter in the Feedback section. He states that there are no female UK members on Armorama. Well yes there is...ME! I joined around November 6th this year, so I'm a bit of a newbie to boot.

I have just started modelling German 48th scale tanks though I have been building model aircraft since I was about 9. (I do 48th scale only now as that is the chosen scale of my Partner too. We met at the local model club where I was living at the time, so other good things can come out of our hobby.)

I have one or two gripes about the hobby, but my pet one at the moment is those sexist Eduard ads for eduard mask. I thought that stuff had died out years ago.
That's enough waffle from me, the sole UK female representitive on the forums

Hi Freya

Great to have you with us - welcome aboard!

I quite agree about the Eduard ads - they are pretty cringe-making...

All the best - and show us some of your models when you can.

Rowan

PS - Is your partner also an Armorama member?

Welcome Freya, glad to have you aboard here at Armorama. I am also into the 1/48th armor, well starting to get interested in it again. Its the scale I started out in back in the 70's. My fiance' Mary aka Tankysgal1 also loves the 1/48th scale armor stuff. Well any way I look forward to you getting your partner to join and also to seeing some of your work. Cheers Kevin

welcome to Armorama Freya... nice to have you in our modelling family...girls are very appreciated in Big-A since MM is mostly known as a male hobby and we really felt honored as we have another her majesty here.
best regards

My apologies Freya, at the time I wrote the letter I didn't know of any UK ladies on Armorama. Since the letter was published Sam (Samantha) (Camogirl) who wrote to the same mag saying that she is a modeller has joined also. Over at the brand new IPMS ArmoramaUK site there is a forum just for you Ladies, talk to Mary, (tankysgal1).
I will be writing to the mag again with an update, would be cool if all you ladies from here could drop them an email, if your interested I'll get their email addy. It all started with an editorial saying basically that there were no lady modellers.
Again my apologies and I hope we see more of you around here and some of you work as well

Welcome Freya to the Big A, I hope you get as much out of it as I do, and also give back what you can.

There lots of knowledge on this site.

I agree with you 100% on this...... It certainly hasn't made me run out and buy their products.

I too agree with this, they are uncomfortable. Apprecaiteion is one thing, but overtly using "sex to sell" especially in the model community seems crass and tasteless.

But, this is coming out of the repressed Eastern Europe area. It will take some time for the lessons about this stuff to be learned and accepted. Western culture had to go through it too. (Some places still are...)

Hello, and welcome to the forums! While I respect your opinion regarding the Eduard ads, I personally love 'em! Here's to more in the future

Remember,

1.Ads pay the bills
2. Chicks dig '109s!

Cheers,

JK
