Hey aviators!

I'm joining the Bombs Away campaign and I'm building a Douglas A20G Havoc (AKA Boston MkIII).
Now, one of the rules for the campaign is to build the plane with open bombbay doors, so the bombload is visable.

The kit I use (Matchbox 1:72 A20 Havoc / Boston Mk IV) does not show a bombbay (or even doors).
I'm planning to build them myself (I have to change the hull anyway).
I have found many pictures and drawings of the plane, but not one of them is showing the bomb bay.

So, my question is:

Does one of you have some pictures for me of the interior of the bomb bay of this plane??? It would be a great help for me!!

Thanks!

Paul

Hi Paul

A set of plans appeared in Scale Models magazine many years ago which included interior details - I'll try to dig them out for you.

All the best

Thanks Brian!
That is indeed not the best picture ever, but it is truely the best picture I have ever seen so far of the A20 bomb bay!!. So I'm very happy with it!

Hi Paul!

Once you are finished with all your researches, you can send all the stuff to me! I plan to build Italeriīs 1/48 A-20 Havoc for the "Bombs Away" Campaign! :-)

Thanks in advance!

Paul, you could skip the bomb bay and make it into a torpedo bomber. Check out info on the Douglas A-20G Havoc...51st Mine and Torpedo Air Regiment (MTAP), Soviet Naval Aviation, Baltic Sea Fleet, 1944-1945...they hung a torpedo under the wing.(might be easier than scratch building a bomb bay!)
Jean-Luc, Vichy Air Force DB-7 maybe?

Hi Nigel!

I would love to make a DB-7 but this version would need some modifications to say the least! I have an article in Replic n°164 about a conversion from an A-20 to a DB-7 version and below is the list of aftermarket stuff the Author used:
- DB-7 resin conversion from JMGT (engine nacelles, engine cowlings, bomber station, air scopes and rudder)
- New KMC propellers
- Two Aires P&W R1830 modified in P&W R1830.SC3G engines
- Eduard Photoetched fret (exterior)
- Eduard Photoetched fret (interior)
- New MDC tyres
- New Squadron Canopy

Sorry I couldnīt resist!

I think the paint scheme on the boxart with D-Day markings and "La France Libre" noseart will do just fine! :-)

Thanks guys!

Jean-Luc; no problem. What I have from pictures, drawings etc. I shall mail to you.

Nigel; I know the torpedo version, but I'm attempting to build a RAF Boston MkIII that made some precision bombings (attemps) on the Philips factories in my home town Eindhoven in the Netherlands at 1942.
(One of the planes flew so low it crashed into the building, as the story goes...).
So, I'm doomed to cut and saw the 1:72 kit, but that's what is the fun also!
