On 5th March 1936 one of the greatest events in aviation history took place, the first flight of the Vickers Supermarine Spitfire K5054. It also happens to be my mums birthday so a double celebration for me.
Post your entries for the 70th anniversary of the first flight of the Spitfire here.
Please read the following.
1. Do not forget to add information about the model, voters will be encouraged to check this out before voting and it may influence thier vote. New.......please put the info about you model in one place. I will only copy the first set of information to put in the gallery, so if you add a piece before each picture only the first part (above the first pic) will be copied.
2. Only post 3 pics, no composits and no pics of real aircraft (even for comparison)
3. Any model of a Spitfire, from any era in any scale is elligable
4. Entry will be open until the 20th March.
5. Please comply with this (NEW), slight change this month
Please rename your pics using a number followed by your CALLSIGN. By this I mean the file name, this is because:
a. When I copy the pics into a folder on my hard drive I have to copy them with the original filename (so I can't change them when I copy them )
b. so that they stay together in the gallery and so that I don't have to name each pic and so they appear in the order in which they were posted I have to re-name each pic with the members callsign. You may imagine what it's like trying to get the 3 pics from each member together (50-60 pics in total with all sorts of file names and some not matching their mates).
So if you use a file name that begins with a number and has your Callsign you will save me about 2 hours work
For example my 3 pics could be 001Holdfast, 002Holdfast and 003Holdfast. I hope this is clear
Voting will begin on the 5th April.
Remember; "you just can't have too many Spitfires"

Hi all.
Mals Mk1 has been looking a bit lonely so Im going to try and upload my entry from the msn groups photo album.
This is the Airfix MK1 in 1/72 and as some of you may remember was the first model I built after a break of 20 years +. Its totally OOB and most of the techniques used while building this were learned from this site.
Looking back and comparing it to my latest builds its pretty ropey but its still my favourite. That is,until I get round to building the next of the 5 (so far) Spits in my stash. In about a year Im going to go back and build this kit again so I can use is as a direct comparrison and see if Ive managed to improve.
Here (hopefully) are the pics.
Happy 70th to R J Mitchells finest

Hi all!
I must confess I don't have many Spitfires in my collection... in fact there is only one! So the choice was easy!
Here's my Airfix 1/48 Spitfire Mk Vb Trop. build out of the box. I know there are a lot of better kits of a Mk V Spitfire out there but this one was cheap and meant to be used as a test model to practice rescribing. On the original model, all the panel lines are raised and... I hate raised panel lines :-)
Don't worry Mal! I have other Spitfires in my stash, so this one will have some brothers in the future!
I hope to see many more once the Gallery is up and running again!

This is the 1/48 scale Airfix Spitfire Mk VB ( the other version of Jean- Luc's Spitfire). It was built OOB and Xtracrylix paints were used.
This was my first plane, the reason I chose a Spitfire was because Mal said "you can never have too many Spitfires."

Hi everyone,
Happy birthday to the Spitfire! Here is my Monogram model. It's the aircraft of future ace Duane Beeson of Boise, Idaho. He started his combat career by enlisting in the RCAF and flying in the Eagle Squadrons. I choose the markings after being transferred to the 8th airforce in 1942.

This is a 1/72 MPM kit of a MK XI PR Spitfire. It was painted in xtracrylic paints and decals came from several kits.
A captured Spitfire PR.IX was used in a special Luftwaffe unit known as 'Rosarius's circus'. This unit demonstrated captured Allied planes to the Luftwaffe personnel to make them familiar with their construction and capabilities. This Spitfire retained the PRU Blue color on the upper surfaces, but the bottom surfaces and the entire tail were painted in bright yellow. This bright painting were supposed to prevent accidental attack by own fighters.
Thanks for looking, Andy .
P.S I am not expecting to get any votes for the Messerspit

Here is my freshly finished Tamiya Mk.I spitfire.
-Cutting Edge Resin cockpit added. Elevators Dropped.
-Major painting done with a mix of PollyScale Acrylics and Model Master enamels (I'm trying to decide on a paint to embrace).
-Letter codes masked and painted on; otherwise a mix of aeromaster decals and hobbydecal dry transfers.
-Weathering done with a 'sludge wash' of polly scale, water, and liquid detergent (panel lines, oil and other stains, etc.). Exhaust and gun stains airbrushed on with diluted Tamiya mix. Chipping done with silver pencil.
Thanks for letting me join a little late.
