Hi Ricky,

I have never used Tamiya paints on aircraft. I have always used Model Master. Your narrative confused me a little. The color on the top and sides of the Corsair look appropriate to me for a two tone scheme. But some early F4U-1 were painted in three tone schemes. What camouflage scheme are you wanting to recreate?
Here is some color reference:

Sincerely,
Brian

Hi Ricky!

Maybe you could post a side view picture or one slightly from below so we can compare...

But you must know that in the pacific areas the colors did blend together rather quickly (even on three camo schemes) due to operational conditions (sun, salt, dust for land based Corsairs etc...)

I can't really speak for the underside color, but the shade on the top looks good to me!

Hi Ricky,

From the new photos it appears to me that the bottom is not gray enough (there is a blue tint or hue to it). Also the entire underneath of the aircraft would not have been the same color. The wings from the folding joint to the tips would have been painted the same color as the top of the aircraft. look at the color plates to see what I mean.

Hi Ricky!

I would rather lighten the underside color a little. Take the color you used and add some white. Again, the upperside color looks good to me...

you may take a look here for a model with a similar paintsheme.

As far as weathering - go nuts theose aircraft took a beating - heavy exhaust stains down the sides - A land based corsair could have a lot of chipped paint as a lot of the islands had coral sand and it was very abrasive so when they were on the runway they were "sandblasting" the wings and belly. I've also seen some strange colors due to extreme fading in the pacific sun! Good luck!

Hi Ricky,
As others have mentioned, the underside could stand to be just a bit lighter in color. The overall paint job you've done is beautiful as far as I'm concearned. For the abused, weathered look take a look at this F4F-4 Wildcat I did a few weeks back.

This was painted with Tamiya just as yours is. The chipped paint is aluminium paint that I sprayed on before the blue paint but it can be applied just as easily with a small brush or toothpick now that your final coat is already on. As BM2 said, these planes took a real beating especially if they were land based. So with a little aluminum paint for chipping, exhaust stains, a little grease here and there and a good overall oil wash you should be pleased with the finished result. Hope this helped.
