Hi gang
yesterday I checked the instructions (sic!) if I forgot anything. I found nothing to be forgotten (which does mean nothing
) so I glued it all together... nose to tail.
Then I glued on the landing gear struts and set it aside to dry for 24 hours ... remember I am a pro in srewing up last minute.
Now the glue has set (hopefully) I took a few pictures:
Now it is ready for paint, but the paint is not yet ready...
BTW Rowan whats up ... are you falling asleep on the goal line?
cheers

Hi Steffen
Looking good!
LOL! No - my I-16 is at a remarkably similar stage to yours!
The cowling's finished, the airframe is complete and it's standing on its undercarriage. I hope to get a chance to do more done tonight and will start painting this weekend.
I had to work late last night - which I'd normally object to, but was fine for once, as it got me out of having to watch the World Cup with a bunch of friends!
I've been trying to get clarification on the "Red 4" decal option. From what I can tell, the colour-scheme should be AII Dark Green in place of Black on the topsides, and I received a very helpful reply on the VVS Modelinng site stating that yellow was hardly ever used as an identifation colour on Soviet aircraft, to avoid confusion with the Eastern Front tactical markings on Axis machines.
I'm also presuming a 1944 vintage I-16 wouldn't have carried stars on the top of the wings, which just leaves the "Red 4" itself - no-one seems to have a reference for it beyond the profile in Squadron's In Action...
All the best
Rowan

Hi Rowan
I had a look into my Armada "Istrebitel I-16" (Michail Maslov) but I could not find a picture there ... hopefully there is one because Mr. Stapfer writes many but sometimes lacks the right details...
BTW You missed nothing ... what a boring and weak game ... looked almost German ... someone said once the game lasts 90 minutes and in the end Germany wins ... that was a long time ago I must confess
Have fun even if you do not like football, e.g go shopping when they play, you'll notice its much less traffic :-) :-) :-)
best wishes

Hi Steffen
Black Beauty indeed! The satin black really shows off the lovely fabric effect on the tail to good effect.
Hopefully your WEM VVS paints will arrive very soon so you can get on with the camouflage.
All the best

Hi Steffen,
Am I imagining things, or did I notice somewhere that our duel became a trio?
If so, I might turn coat and fly as your wing man!

Hi Frank
Fred (JPTRR) wanted to join with a Claude or Ki-27 restauration, but he has not posted here (yet?) So we should first get a definite answer from him or we are both lost if he takes his parachute ...
BTW I did apply some colour to my model, but i am not too satisfied at the moment .. needs a little touch up before I post photos.
cheers

Hi Steffen
Cool! The I-16 looks great in the pale grey scheme - almost like a racer.
Is the "Yellow 5" from the spares box or an aftermarket sheet?
All the best

Hi Rowan
the 5 is from the spare box (a Hasegawa Bf 109 G-2 Special edition kit) I made it a little narrower but I did not change the style as the Print scale is only a "reconstruction" from memories. Here is a comparison
best wishes

Hi all
while my type 10 still needs some attention I got my I-16 type 24 on tuesday .... really nice!
The cowling is much better that the type 10 and I think the spine is also less "squared", but I have to check that ...
If you only want to build one of Polikarpovs donkeys take the I-16 type 24 it looks great (the cockpit is still wrong, but if you leave the doors shut it is no problem)
best wishes
Steffen
My apologies to all who hoped to see progress on my model :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

Hi Steffen,
I e-mailed Eduard and asked for the replacement cowling for the type 10. Two weeks later, I got an empty letter from Eduard. The envelope had a slit down the side,..... it seems someone took a liking to the contents, or the possibility of something a bit more profitable that resembles the shape of the cowling...... say a ring!?! I'll give Eduard high marks in trying to replace the cowling free of charge, but failing marks for the flimsy envelope which showed the contours of the cowling all too well.
P.S. I'll be starting my Fine Moulds Claude pretty shortly, it will have the two tone brown and green camo, and should prove worthy of your I16.....
Cheers,
Frank

Hi Frank
I'm looking forward to your Claude. If I'll ever get my Ki.10-II maybe we could work out a double duel as you wantet to do a "red star" instead of/besides the "meat ball".

Hi Steffen
It's looking excellent! After all your troubles getting the paints, it's great to see the I-16 almost done.
I'd say go for the bare-metal ring; while I haven't found a conclusive photo to back it up yet, Erik Pilawskii shows the ring in his painting guide for an AEh-9 Light Grey / AEh-11 Black Type 10... and that's good enough for me.
All the best
Rowan

Hi Steffen
Wow! Even allowing for the time-zone difference, you made an early start today!
That looks great - it really does help "define" the cowling somehow. I agree - add some exhaust stains (I really like the overall weathering, by the way, especially the way it brings out the tail structure). And don't forget the leather coaming at the front of the cockpit.
All the best
Rowan

Errr, actually not I am up as early as every day ... I finished the cowling band yesterday, but it was too dark to get good photos

more things to screw the model up
... I am really afraid of that because I want to take it to our next weeks show ... thanks for the hint anyway as I totally missed that

Hi Rowan
Your lying and do not even get red in the face
.... I know I forgot to put exhaust stains on the u/c covers besides some mud ... but as I said: next week .... maybe
I managed to get a big fat black fingerprint on the wing during my work today ... but I was lucky as I could remove it with a Q-tip and some spittle .. sounds disgusting but does help :-) :-) :-)
cheers
