Hi George
Fitting your name I will build a N1K2-J Shiden KAI , American code name "George".
When I looked in my stash I first found a Rufe, but at least I want to have a chance. The kit is already started but it will fit in Jean-Luc's rules and I have a better chance to finish it. Aftermarket stuff will be avoided, maybe except seat belts.
Camouflage and markings will be for Sqn.Leader Naoshi Kanno of 301 Hikotai (343 Air Group) who had 25 confirmed kills when he went MIA. (Boxart shows his a/c.)
cheers
Steffen

Hi all
I took some photos so you can see I am not cheating. The wings parts were already glued together, as the fuselage halfs plus elevators.
I did some work in the cockpit area and the engine. I want this to be OOB as far as I can maybe some seat belts.
cheers
Steffen

Hello George
No sweat!! This is fun ... at least it should be :-) :-) :-)
As I already wrote: the kit was already a started. Today I sanded a not used cover away, rescribed and polished the area and then I put a little Mr. Surfacer 500 on the fuselage seam as I worked a little grubby when I started the kit some years ago.
BTW The Japanese a/c models from Hasegawa are really well detailed!!
cheers

Hello George
As my I-16 has to rest until I get the colours, I had a little fun with the N1K2-J. I did what I hate most .. painting cockpits:
As my model had already two larger sub assemblies I could now fit the pit into the fuselage and join it with the wing (I still have to add the stick .. hope I do not forget it later)
I also glued the engine and cowling flaps to the fuselage, but I still leave off the cowling as i want to paint the engine after the painting is done. Furthermore I hollowed ot the air intakes in the cowling.
There was a gap of approx 1/2 to 1 mm that I closed with a streched sprue and glue (very thin Kibri). Later this will be sanded and smooted out with Mr. Surfacer (and then polished and rescribed)
thats all for now
cheers
Steffen

Great George!!
The pix are a bit blurry but I can see that you put much work in it! Good job!
I am a bit stuck at the moment as I do not really like how I repaired the missing part ... but I gues I'll live with it.
best wishes
Steffen

Hey Steffen!!!
I've done a bit more work on the corsair! Made the engine with the cup of it and placed it on the fuselage! No details (wires and stuff) were added inside the engine!
I also glued the flaps to a sligtly down position and there was the problems! From the upper side all is ok! no gups beautifull sight! But from the below ....... Well have a look!
Shall i put some putty or what? any suggestions would be nice!
Cheers!!

Hello George
hard to say ... normally there should be a gap where the airflow goes through. Maybe you can clean up the edges of the gap and then rework the hinges?
Sorry I have no better idea at the moment...
best wishes

Hi George
No process here, but I'll take up the project soon. I hope to get my new airbrush next weekend ... but you are right I am a slow modeller.
The I-16 is done (well I'll try to fix the overly done exhaust stains .. pretty hard on such a bright surface), my P-40E just takes some aiming dvice for the pilot and I need to find out which clear part has to have what colour (many position, warning ... what ever lights on the surface)
and then
it is time for some Imperial modelling again (and of course there is the Bf 109 for my duel with Carlos and the Fw 190 to shoot down Rowans I-16 t.10) have I forgotten someone? ... Jean-Luc should post an updated table from time to time
best wishes from Gemany

Hi George
slow progress, but I airbrushed and masked the yellow stipes on the wing leading edge and gave the whole crate a nice black primer coat for the "metal" layer ... you see my thumb got it's share too :-)
Edit ... well, as I was in the mood I just airbrushed the model dk. aluminium:
more to follow soon .... I hope
cheers
Steffen
P.S. Jean-Luc, may I remind you .... pleeeeeeeeez

Hi Steffen!
It's probably because some people didn't choosed "Group Build" as they started their Duel threads. Those who choosed this Discussion Group are probably those who are now in the appropriate "Air Campaign" forum.
I know Rowan is busy at the moment so I don't want to ask him to move a dozen of Duel threads from the General Aviation Forum to the Air Campaign Forum...
Unfortunately I don't have the "power" to move threads. So it's a little bit complicated for me to have a good overview of all the duels. That's why I didn't updated the table since a while now...

Ok, so it was my fault ... rats .. it is hard to find if you have to dig through 500 posts ...

Not much progress again but some more pix
As i used Citadel Primer and Allclad II colours, I could apply the next layer pretty fast.
First some spots of Maskol (still the best masking liquid IMO) ---
(The pic is altered pretty much to make the violet spots stand out more)
Then Tamiya XF-70 IJN dark green. After it was dry I airbrushed the upper wing Hinumarus.
And then came some fun: "sanding" the model. I used some kind of steel wool for that ---- carefully!!
On the right fuselage side I removed a little too much green which I'll touch up later. Then i applied some of the decals . there is a nice colour photo which shows this machine pretty much beaten up like my model, so i will leave off most of the stencils. ...... still a lot of work to do
I do not know if I can make progress today ... we'll see
happy modelling
