Greetings all;
While working on a review for my site on the Eduard 1/48 Sopwith 2F.1 #8058 (Profi-pack) kit I ran into this little bit of fun.

B. Sopwith Camel 2F.1, N6612 (?) Served on HMS Pegasus (Dec 1917 thru Sept. 1918 ), Turnhouse land base from Oct. 1918 - Jan 1919.) Then in support of the the white Russian Army it was on HMS Phaeton & Vindictive (Sept. 1919) flown by Flt Lt. S. D. Culley. Engine was a Bentley BR.1 150hp.

Note: Somebody at Eduard fouled this scheme up.
The image for the kit profile’s red band marking has N6612.
Yet the text says that this is the marking for N6814,
But the actual decal says N6812?

Hey Lars! They were Inspection cavities for the pulleys and cables. There are three in the top wing. All covered with "Cellon."

Hi Guys
I’m to starting the Camel 2f1.Always starting to examine the instructions. It seems to be missing a colour number. In section 2 where the Photoetched peace 9 will go on part B13. Eduard wants us to paint part PE9 in H 2.even PE 10, PE 20, PE 23, PE24..The colourlist do not give the answer.
Jack, I need your expertise here…
What is H2.
Anyone?
The pooltime was an short one. 10 degres and rain. Prefect for fotball/soccer.
I´m back in the gluetrenches

Hey Lars,
In the Eduard Profi-pack #8058 on page 4 (in the area that should have been labelled Section 3 but was omitted) B 13 is the pour spout to the fuel tank. This assembly was made of aluminum and was not over-painted. PE 9 &10 X2 are the filler caps to the tanks. PE 23 & 24 are the metal reinforcement edges to the turtledeck openingsmfor the tanks. These appear to be either brass or white metal / aluminum.

Gunze H2 should be silver / aluminum. Took a midnight dip last night myself. Slept like a baby afterwards. Always remember in the Laws of Modeling 101, Rule # 16.) The kit instructions may be very interesting, (especially concerning colour notations) but are 95 % of the time irrelevant.

Thanks,
I´ve agree I always miss to look on the colourlist especially the Gunze list. Always goes for Humbrol, its easier to get around here.

If you are a winter swimmer you are welcome, the birds are swimming in my barbeque.No fun, but you can’t change the weather, so it’s gluing time.

Greetings all;

I had a recent inquiry concerning the Sopwith Camels of the RNAS.

Michael Dever asked me "Hey Stephen! Did the British Naval air service use both types of Camels?"

Yes the RNAS used the F.1 (usually with the Bentley rotary) and the 2F.1 (with the Clerget or the Bentley) There were also installations of the Admiralty A.R. 1 150hp rotary as well. But I am still researching this. Here is a 2F.1 interior

Hi Guys
I’ve started up the Camel now. Here are some pics for you

Here is the seat from the box, the etched one looks okay. The upper wing will probably cover the cock pit opening anyway.. No, homemade wicker in this one.

Fixing the ailerons poor fit against the wings.

To be continued
Kindly

Greetings all; Originally I had planned to have this thread be about clearing up some bad information on the kit mentioned but since Lars and I seem to be working on the same kit I'll continue to post my comments.

Note while Lars has modified the wing / aileron attachments I will keep them stock...out of the box. But I'll be putting a Bentley replacement into the Eduard build and on the other 2F.1 I mentioned I'll add the Profipack engine. I am doing the Prototype 2F.1 (N5) from pieces of the Blue Max and left over Eduard items.

The Bentley is a modified item from a resin JGMT kit. I have in my posession about ten photo etch frets of the Copper State Models Sopwith Dolphin detail sets. So I'll be able to augment the Blue Max kit. Images to be posted in a few days.

Hint. Every small model company has "seconds" of flawed items. Usually if you contact them and offer to pay for shipping they will send you items just to get rid of them. There are always ways to modify this or that. Here is the other side of that cockpit.

Greetings all;

One bit of fun concerning the Eduard kit 8058 Profipack fuselage. The horizontal and all the vertical fuselage stitching on the right side needs to be erased the length of the forward most bay. The fuselage for the 2F.1 came in 2 halves. The stitching ends at the fuselage separation. The molded in stitching is for the the F.1 fuselage.

Sorry Stephen
To hijack your thread, was not my intention from start. The Camel was on top of my desk when you started this thread, so I was very happy to have first hand on your comments about the kit.

If I´m right you also have to relocate the footstep to the other side of the splitline.

Again Stephen

No worries Lars. The more we collaborate here the better we become. Thanks for the images and your concern. If I had any concerns I would contact you. With the 2F.1 on the top of your pile what can I say...Great minds run in the same track. You are right as well concerning the footstep. The instructions even give you an option set of photoetch. Model On!

Greating
i´ve learned from Stephen :-) :-)
The Clerget engine for the camel is almost finished. Some tuching up to do. I did not use the etched peaces,not found of two dimensioned pushrods and ignitioncables.Iused copperwire 0,12mm for the ignitionwire, and 0,20 mm steelwire for the pushrods. Gloss Black Humbrol for a basecoat, finaly Alclad aluminium on top.

Greetings all;

Just for comparison to Lars' modified Eduard Clerget here is a stock Eduard kit version mounted on a Blue Max 2F.1 fuselage.

On the left is the Blue Max fuselage ith the stock Eduard Clerget & plastic seat. This will be the prototype 2F.1 "N5".

On the right is the Eduard kit with the JGMT rotary I will use to convert to the Bentley BR.1. This will be a production version.

This is the Copper State Models photoetch for their Sopwith Snipe kit. I purchased about ten of these as seconds from the company's owner back in 2000.

Here is the same fret after heating and painting with basic colours. A few parts have already been used on the Blue Max fuselage.
