I have an idea for a campaign for next year
Who would be interested in a "Malta" group build?
I would suggest the period of June 1940-July 1943.This would cover the early days of " Faith,Hope and Charity",the famous Gloster Gladiators, the defence of the island against immense pressure from the Luftwaffe and Regia Aeronautica,up to the invasion of Sicily.
The skies over Malta were alive with aircraft throughout this period.
Heres just a brief idea of what types saw service during this time.Im sure there are lots more Ive not listed.
Bristol Beaufighter bombers+pru
Bristol Beaufort
Fairey Fulmar
Fairey Swordfish
Fairey Swordfish floatplane
Gloster Gladiator
Hawker Hurricane mk1 trop +un trop
Hawker Hurricane mkiia,,iic
Vickers Wellington
liberator,,used as cargo plane
Supermarine Spitfire mkv fighters + pru
Martin Maryland
Miles Magister
Short Sunderland
Blackburn Skua
Bristol Blenheim iv

Junkers 87 Flown by the Italians also
Junkers 88
me109e
me109f
me110
Heinkel 111
Junkers 52

Macchi 200
Macchi 202
Savoia s.79
savoia s 82
Cant z.506b floatplane
Fiat cr42
Plenty for everyone there, biplanes, floatplanes, fighters, bombers, flying boats and photo reconn aircraft. There were even all black Hurricane night fighters based on Malta.
Lets get an idea of who would be up for this and if theres enough interest I'll formally submit "Malta" as a Campaign proposal.

Count me in Nige. Sounds like a good idea for a campaign, bit of everything in there (apart from MIgs :-) ).

Nice one Nige!

I reckon this is a good opportunity to open things up and invite suggestions for next year's Campaigns in general, so I've taken the liberty of renaming the thread and stickying it.

I really like the Malta idea - I've planned a Sea Gladiator for ages.

I'll toss a few more into the hat:

Trainers - they always seem to get overlooked and I've got plenty of tasty kits on the shelves.
X-planes & Prototypes - Project X '07 really.
Under Different Colours - captured aircraft.

All the best

Some good ideas there Rowan. Trainers sounds really interesting,,maybe I'll hang on with my Tiger Moth build for a while,,and Ive also got a Stearman and a Harvard in my stash.
As for "Under Different Colours",,this will give Mal the perfect oportunity to build that Spit in German markings hes been wanting to build for ages :-) :-)
If he does that I'll eat my shorts

:-) :-) But the strange sound would still be Mal choking at the idea of a Spit wearing Swastikas!

Some good ones there.
Trainers - eeerrr ummm bit short of kits in that area, but I have seen a nice 1/48 Tf-104G Starfighter i would like to build .
X-planes and prototypes- definitely count me in on this one.
Under different colours - That would fit nicely with part 2 of my Messerspit project :-) .
Some i would like to throw in as well,
Tank Destroyer - any aircraft or helicopter specifically built to take out ground targets.
Royal Air Force Any aircraft flown by the R.A.F, in R.A.F markings of course.
NATO Tiger Meet Aircraft sporting the Tiger meet colours.
I very much doubt i would actually run any of these campaigns as i haven't a clue how to do those wonderful graphics that grace our campaigns lately.

F-16 Group Build?

Hi everyone,

Here is one I submitted before but never got off the ground. I'd like to see it reconsidered with new dates.

It's been call many things including the Electric Jet, Falcon, Viper and Lightning. Without a doubt it is one of the most common aircraft of the modern age. Flying for no less than 24 countries and numerous branches of service.
They're battle proven and sure to be in service for decades to come. They have an incredible variety of armament to hang from them. The combinations of markings and paint scheme's can satify just about anyones taste.
My proposal is;
January 1st through June 1st 2007,
Any scale, any nation, sub type, stand alone, dio or vignette
(Anything goes as long as the focus is an F-16).
To help convince your taste buds here is a list of countries that use the F-16.

Total delivered or on order as of 2005:
United States Air Force: 2507 (some sold to other countries)
United States Navy: 40
Other air forces: 2401
Royal Bahraini Air Force: 22
Belgian Air Force: 160
Chilean Air Force: 10+18
Danish Air Force: 78
Egyptian Air Force: 220
Hellenic Air Force: 170
Royal Jordanian Air Force: 24
Indonesian Air Force: 10
Israeli Air Force: 382
Italian Air Force: 34
Royal Netherlands Air Force: 213
Royal Norwegian Air Force: 72
Royal Oman Air Force: 12
Pakistan Air Force: 40
Polish Air Force: 48
Portuguese Air Force: 45
Republic of Singapore Air Force: 60
Republic of China (Taiwan) Air Force: 150
Republic of Korea Air Force(ROKAF): 180
Royal Thai Air Force: 61
Turkish Air Force: 240
United Arab Emirates Air Force: 80
Venezuelan Air Force: 24

Total number manufactured: 4,426

Sincerely,
Brian

Hi Stefan,

I intended to propose this (or did I last year?:-? ) campaign--another of my favorite scenarios.

Nigel, I would be happy to buold Malta. I bought a Gladiator just for Faith, Hope and Charity.

Both great ideas for my money!

Hi all.
The Malta Campaign
Seems like theres a bit of interest already for the Malta Campaign.
Obviously nothing is set in stone until I submit it officially for approval, but this is a rough guideline of what Im thinking.
Any aircraft, any scale,on a base if you like.AM goodies more than welcome.
The time period Im thinking would range from June 1940-July 1943.
This would cover the time from the first bombings of Malta up to launch of Operation Husky, the invasion of Sicily.Full circle from desperate defence to the launch pad for the Allied invasion.
The only stipulation would be that the aircraft had to be used in the defence of Malta or flown against the island fortress.
This would incorporate German and Italian subjects flown from Sicily and Fleet Air Arm aircraft used for escorting replacement planes launched from carriers to bolster the islands defences. I was thinking of including Operation Husky itself in this but I think that would make it a bit more of a "mediterranean" campaign than a Malta one,and a lot of the longer range aircraft used in the Sicily invasion were based in North Africa.
Shorter ranged aircraft used in Operation Husky and based on Malta would of course be eligible.
The importance of the island during this time period cannot be understated, and this was recognised by the award to the island of the George Cross on 15th April 1942,the highest civilian award for gallantry.
Hope this answers any imediate questions anybody might have, but feel free to ask if you want any more information.

Nige - I like your Malta idea. Definetley up for thatone.

Another which would be interesting is Post War Fleet Air Arm. With Trumpeter having just done the Wyvern and about to do a Gannet I think this would be great. Plus there are loads of interesting aircraft used by the Fleet Air Arm after the Second World War.

I like Andy's suggestion of Tank Destroyers, but I would give it a more generic term of "Mud Movers" for aircraft designed to attack ground targets.

Additionally, I like the thought of a helicopter campaign.

Maybe a "Cold War" campaign? From when the cold war started to 1989 when the Berlin Wall came down.....

I love "under different colors" and think it would be great to do a captured p-47...

Also, I really like the cat idea - anything that you can relate to the cat family. Tiger meet, kittyhawk, hellcat, etc.

Now for another. How about one called "Merlin's Apprentice" We could all just sign up, Rowan could build something, teach us some stuff along the way, and in the end we could be given a magic wand or something

Another one that I would like to see would be "Let's build together" where, kind of like with the duel, you would have partners (as many as are interested), but in this one you would build the exact same kits (different marking, extras, etc if desired) and in doing so you could share techniques, help each other grow, etc.

Anyway, really all of the proposed ideas are great. 2007 looks like it will be a good year.

How about a Helicopter campaign geared more to those used as transport. Doesn’t necessary have to be a cargo type helicopter, many of the smaller helicopters where used in many situations as well. First thoughts will be “Military” carrying “Supply’s” , well that’s all good but lets go beyond that. How about civilian, they are used daily…such as a Medi-Vac. This build is open to all Country’s, States, City’s and Towns through out the world. The object is simple, to build any Helicopter that is used in any of the transportation fields, again it could be Military or Civilian.

There are many scales of helicopter out, many can be found at a local hobby shop, or even bought of eBay cheap. Revell in the last two years released a bunch that would fit into this. Let’s think about it…

I can think of a few more, along these lines.

Aircraft of:

SEAC
FAA South West Pacific

Others have mentioned other Campaigns, within the Pacific Rim, these 3 major area's could be included.

Milne Bay {Papua New Guinea}
This Strategic area was where the AIF/RAAF defeated the Japanese

Battle of the Bismarck Sea
This had both the RAAF and with USAAC co-operation against the Japanese Navy.

Bombing of Darwin
This little known event was to last almost 9 months from Feb '42

Just an idea.

Here's a few more ideas....

The Doolittle Raid.
Pearl Harbor
Pathfinders
Operation "Judgement"
The naval Battle of Taranto took place on the night of 11 November — 12 November 1940 during World War II. The Royal Navy launched the first all-aircraft naval attack in history, flying a small number of aircraft from an aircraft carrier in the Mediterranean and attacking the Italian fleet at Taranto. The effect of the British aircraft on the Italian warships led pundits around the world to predict the end of the "big gun" ship and the rise of naval air-power.

Operation "Carthage"
On march 21st at 0855, 20 Mosquitos of the no. 2 light bomber group, escorted by 30 Mustangs from the 11th fighter group took off from RAF Fersfield in Norfolk. 18 of the bombers were Mosquito F.B. Mk. VI and 2 were Mosquito B. Mk. IV from the film production unit (FPU).
The bombers carried 44x500 pound bombs. The Mustangs were Mk III's. The formation arrived at Tissoe, a lake in western Zeeland, and split up in three waves: no. 1: 7 Mosquitos (one FPU) and 12 Mustangs, no. 2: 6 Mosquitos and no. 3: 7 Mosquitos (one FPU). Apparently the three waves took different routes to Copenhagen, although they all approached Copenhagen from the south-west.

Operation "Jericho"
Operation Jericho was a low-level attack on Amiens Prison in Nazi-occupied France undertaken by 19 Mosquito Mk. VI aircraft of the Royal Air Force led by Group Captain Percy Charles Pickard, DSO, DFC, on 18 February 1944.
Amiens Prison during the raidTaking part in the mission were 18 aircraft from 487 Squadron (RNZAF), 464 Squadron (RAAF) and 21 Squadron RAF, all from 140 Wing of the 2nd Tactical Air Force, along with one (unarmed) Mosquito from the Photo Reconnaissance Unit (PRU). The Mosquitos were escorted by Typhoons from three other RAF squadrons, numbers 174, 198 and 245. The PRU Mosquito circled above the prison, taking cine film of the attack and reporting results to the attacking force.

The low level bombing of the Gestapo HQ in Oslo 25th september 1942
