Hi Jan!

That's a nice idea to move the list here... were it belongs!

A lot of work will be required to move all the Campaign related threads over here though.

No problem young Master Jean-Luc....I like the new style of the forum and I'll enjoy watching it grow to its full potential, under the pontent leadership of you guys.

Now.....if I only could get myself sorted and up and running as easy as this it would be great.....lol!

Hi there

I guess we should begin to think about setting a deadline for suggestions and then begin to whittle this lot down to a more manageable shortlist to put forward as full Campaigns. Anything that doesn't make it can still be a Group Build - there's loads of nice ideas there - but we'll have to be a bit ruthless and get the list down to about a dozen or so for starters...

All the best

That's not a problem young Master Rowan.....you do what you feel like. You guys cut it down to size yourself or if you'd like, we could have a vote to which dozen to turn into campaigns.....
The rest can be as you say be turned into group builds.SmileyCentral.com

Sino-Japanese
Defense of the Empire

These two sound super (I think I submitted these :-) )!

I just began reviewing an Osprey book scheduled to be released in December, Soviet Lend-Lease Aces. This is a cool (pardon the pun) book, rekindling my interest in the Eastern Front! Here's a hint as to why I think this could be a fun campaign--a P-47 painted in the Soviet two-gray and light blue air superiority scheme!

So another idea: Lend-Lease Over the East

Hi all!

I agree with that, a dozen to choose from would be cool... I think (it's a personal opinion, not a final decision) that we should not exceed 6 Campaigns next year. I would say three for the first six months (January until end of May) and three for the remaining six (June to december). Comments on that welcome of course!

I also think that the Campaigns should cover all eras from WW1 to modern. Only WW2 Campaigns wouldn't be acceptable for example. So we should also split the list into eras. Of course there are Campaigns that cover several eras. The "Trainers" suggestion (I choosed this one because it was the first of the list) would allow vintage or modern aircraft to be elligible. Comments on that also welcome...

Concerning the Campaign Leaders, it is very important that the various propositions are associated with a member's name. If you submit a suggestion, you must be aware that YOU will have to lead the Campaign. This is important as such a group build requires some work and management. I would also encourage people to build up a team to avoid the "Disapearing Campaign Leader Syndrom". In the future, it would be nice if the Campaign Leader has some kind of substitute, just in case...

We have three months to sort that out so there is no need to rush yet. But I think right now is the perfect timing to discuss this

Master Jean-Luc....

I agree with that. For now we don't seem to have too many from WWI, it's more WWII and later on the list. So if you don't mind I'll add one more WWI campaign to choose.....

Hi there

I agree with Jea-Luc that we should ensure there's always a variety on offer so that anyone, no matter what era they like to model, always finds a Campaign running that they might like to join in with.

Perhaps we could stretch it four Campaigns per six months? - one each for the primary era categories and maybe one "special" like "Helicopters", "SEAR/Firefighters" or "Trainers" to run alongside - so that's really five in total.

If you want a WW1 Campaign for 2007, why not "Bloody April" to mark the 90th anniversary of the heavy airfighting when a RFC pilot posted to the Western Front was said to have a life expectancy of only 23 days.

But, of course, there's the big anniversary too next year - the USAF was founded in 1947! We really should do something for that one!

All the best

Are we going to have some kind of poll then? Added your two to the list as well. Are the campaigns going to run first group of four January 1st to June 30th and the second group of four July 1st to December 31st 2007 then? How about make a wee competiton at the end of each campaign? Maybe with a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, or would that maybe be too much?

Just playing with different ideas here fellows, feel free to give me something to calm down.....lol

Hi Jan

Plucking a date from the air, let's set a deadline for entries to be considered as official Campaigns as next Sunday - the 15th. That'll give everyone a chance to put their thinking caps on and we'll aim to have a shortlist up for voting through November. Sound OK?

All the best

Hi

while I do not want to intervene I find the hard restraints rather "communistic and PC-ish" (at the same time) ... When there is no proposal for a WW 1 (or whatever) campaign right now their may be during 2007. Why not concentrate on the first quarter (or 6 months) and take 3 or 4 most popular and make another qualification round every 3 or 6 months .. (also there may be shorter campaigns than 6 months ... but that might be too short for myself)

I have a suggestiuon for the many asian / pacific campaigns .... maybe it would be a good idea to combine some of them. e.g. one Battle for Asia -1931-45 - CBI (including mainland defense) and a 2nd for naval-air combat / island hopping ... just a thought

best wishes

Steffen

Hi Steffen

Any and all suggestions are welcome. We can make the campaigns run as two six months, four three months or three four months thingys....I guess.
But that's for the Big Wigs to decide I suppose or for all of us to agree upon....

Hi Jan

Unless I've miscounted, there are already 14(!) Paciific Theatre Of War subjects in that list - I'd say they are ripe targets for combining. (Of course, the individual battle scenarios could still run as Group Builds among those interested.)

I think a good first stage would be to get the list down to 6 ideas each for the main eras - that'll make voting much easier.

All the best

Rowan

P.S. Well done for grabbing the issue by the horns to get things sorted.

I did a few more changes in the list, worked the Pacific Campaigns down to six, by changing the Doolittle Raid to "Down To Earth, Cats to "Ironworks" since you could find them in the Atlantic and Carribean. I put the attack on Darwin as an ANZAC campaign and put the Defense of the Empire and Reich together as one with Mine Bay (would that be correct?). Also, I put the Sino-Japanese as an Asia campaign. Feel free to cut and change as you like fellows......

Not a problem Rowan. I don't mind helping out a wee bit, keeps my mind off that I can't build at this very moment.....Siiiiigh!

Hi again Jan

That's a good start, but I think we'll have to a lot more ruthless than that... we should aim for about 6 WW2 Campaigns in total to go through to the next round. I'd personally think in broad terms and make the Pacific Air War a single entry, or maybe break it into the Pacific and ICB conflicts... but that's just my opinion. :-)

All these except Guadalcanal, Milne Bay and Bismarck Sea was in the first half of 1942. But I squeeze them all together and made one Campaign of them. We can call the campaign "The turn of the tide", when things started to go the right way for the Allies.

[quote...]where's JackFlash when you need him?[/quote]

Hi Jan

You read my mind when it comes to the early stuff! :-) I had two ideas:

Between The Wars - to cover all the Golden Age classics - Furies, Peashooters et al.

WW1 Other Fronts - covering the Austro-Hungarian vs Italian air war, the Eastern Front and Africa - basically a chance to get away from the usual diet of Western Front a/c.

Going back a few stages to another point Steffen made, I think it's a good idea to have a second vote in the early summer for the second batch of next year's Campaigns (the "almost made it's" from the first round can be carried forward) - this will keep the whole subject alive and ready for fresh input.

Anyway, I'll post a reminder for everyone to get their ideas for the first batch in this week.

All the best

Rowan
