Hi again

Just another note - because I know people can put a lot of thought and research into their Campaign ideas. I hope I didn't sound dismissive in saying topics like all the Pacific Theatre scenarios need compacting/compiling; this was in no way trashing the ideas for the individual suggestions - they are ALL great - it's just a shock that there are so many of them! The ideas should all be incorporated into the description for the combined official Campaign.

All the best

Something like this maybe Rowan? The campaign names are just so that I new what I was doing...lol!

I put some campaigns together as "specials" since you could find in more than one war etc.
Let me know if you want me to try cut down any further fellows....this is good fun.

I like those ideas VERY much. I've put them in the list as you can see.
We've still got one to go to bring it up to six possible campaigns.

Greetings O' Enlighted One....

Who sounded dismissive?? You?? Not at all Rowan, not at all!
I don't know how it is for other people, but for me, research has
always been just as fun as the building of the model itself.
I enjoyed looking around to get ideas for the campaigns, the same
goes for the work of cutting them down in numbers. Because then I
had to think of ways to try to combine them together into one group.
It was all good fun (at least for me) to do all this "hard" work. And fun is
what it's all about anyway, isn't it? I LOVE history you could say.....
So I wouldn't worry too much about it...... :-)
Have a few on me...... :-)

Also, as you say, we can still work the ideas into the description of
the campaigns, so nothing is really lost, right?

Cheers Jan

Campaigns can be a touchy subject - you've not been around long enough to remember some of the "fun" we had as part of the old Armorama. Some folks put a lot of effort into preparing their ideas and can be very "up-front" (shall we say) in defending / promoting them...

But we're a far happier and more tolerent breed here on Aeroscale - and long may it continue.

Well, as I see it Rowan. Shouldn't any of my ideas for campaigns be put up as a build now or in the future, I can always build the model anyway and make a "campaign" of my own or even make it a duel together with someone...
The posibilities are endless if you just think about it you know.
Anger is a futile and exhausting emotion. But that's only my opinion. :-)

erm.... is this the right time to put another campaign suggestion into the mix? a while ago now, joe (callsign mother) suggested a gruop build or campaign called the "other side of the airfield" and his idea was to build any kit as long as it was a departure from your usual stuff i.e. i'm known for my liking of ww1 stuff, so a modern subject would be my entry for example
what do you guys think?

Not too sure if anyone has put forward the idea of a Reconnaissance Campaign. This was one of the first warfare uses of the airplane. This IIRC is how fighters developed, trying to stop the enemy from gaining that vital reconnaissance.

Also IIRC a PRU Mosquito was the first allied aircraft to have an aerial encounter with a Me262. Right from the low tech Bi-planes to the SR-71, most of these pilots flew unarmed aircraft to bring back those ever-vital photographs.

Hi Rowan...I'll try to come up with something as well for Club 1935 (where's JackFlash when you need him?), I'll look around to get some ideas.

You Called?

For Early Aviation I would like to suggest...

"In Enemy Hands." Real captured aircraft that were used for evals fighter schools by both sides of the lines.1915-1918 I have some great references to share.

"When I Flew with..." Pick the real fighter unit you would have flown with and add your own personalized markings Allied or Central powers.

"Dual of the aces" Pick someone to build against. Build opposing aircraft as your favorite ace or just be yourself. Describe in a narrative the combat moves that you would use against each other. The more colourful the aircraft the more colourful the narrative.

"Bloody April 1917" Build an history correct - ace's mount from Allied or Central Powers and his victim. Describing in the best detail you can the fateful combat.

"Enemy Ace vs G-8 and his Battle Aces, Pulp Fiction" Whether its was from the 1930's or the 1960's pulp book or comic book heroes. 1918 Markings per the books you reference.

"Ginger to the rescue..." Sign up with either British or German units opposing each other and go up on patrol. Describing the slug fest and try to out do each other. The advantage here is the markings and colour schemes are wide open.

The ones we don't use now we can save for coming years.

Hi everyone,

Here is two ideas of mine that slipped through the cracks.

‘Victoria Viperinus’ (Victorious Vipers the F-16)

It's been call many things including the Electric Jet, Falcon, Viper and Lightning. Without a doubt it is one of the most common aircraft of the modern age. Flying for no less than 24 countries and numerous branches of service.
They're battle proven and sure to be in service for decades to come. They have an incredible variety of armament to hang from them. The combinations of markings and paint scheme's can satisfy just about anyone’s taste.

Total delivered or on order as of 2005:
United States Air Force: 2507 (some sold to other countries)
United States Navy: 40
Other air forces: 2401
Royal Bahraini Air Force: 22
Belgian Air Force: 160
Chilean Air Force: 10+18
Danish Air Force: 78
Egyptian Air Force: 220
Hellenic Air Force: 170
Royal Jordanian Air Force: 24
Indonesian Air Force: 10
Israeli Air Force: 382
Italian Air Force: 34
Royal Netherlands Air Force: 213
Royal Norwegian Air Force: 72
Royal Oman Air Force: 12
Pakistan Air Force: 40
Polish Air Force: 48
Portuguese Air Force: 45
Republic of Singapore Air Force: 60
Republic of China (Taiwan) Air Force: 150
Republic of Korea Air Force(ROKAF): 180
Royal Thai Air Force: 61
Turkish Air Force: 240
United Arab Emirates Air Force: 80
Venezuelan Air Force: 24

Total number manufactured: 4,426

'The Willowaw War'

In June of 1942 the Japanese invaded the Aleutian Islands of Alaska as an opening diversion for the battle of Midway. Dutch Harbor was attacked and the islands of Attu and Kiska were occupied and airfields/seaplane bases were built.
The US then occupied other islands including Adak and built airfields. The Campaign was mostly fought with aircraft. Combat losses occurred on both sides and the weather accounted for more lost in action crew/aircraft than the enemy.
Once the Japanese left the Aleutians the Americans continued to bomb the Northern Japanese Mainland until the end of the war.
Aircraft were numerous and came in a variety of markings (many of the early aircraft were destined for N. Africa and arrived in desert schemes!) The Canadians also contributed aircraft and crews. Many lend lease aircraft to Russia also went through the islands. Some of the aircraft that served in this area included:

P-38, P-39, P-40, B-17, B-24, B-25, B-26, Piper cub, C-47, OS2U, PBY, PBM, Ventura, J2 Duck, Rufe, Mavis, Emily, KI-44, KI-100, Zero, Val, Kate, Betty and the USS Nassau (CVE-16) was on hand for the invasion of Attu bringing F4F's and TBM's.

FYI Willowaw is Eskimo term that means 'Violent Squall' which fits the Aleutian Campaign in my mind. Merlin and Jean-Luc, I would not be heartbroken if either of these ended up consolidated or as plain old Group Builds.

Oops one more thing, Polar Bear has not been around for a while. I'm tossing this out on his behalf. He mentioned way back when about 'Falklands Islands' Campaign since 2007 would be the 25 year anniversery of that conflict. Something we might consider as well.

Sincerely,
Brian

A couple thoughts ...

Campaign or Group Build, they are really the same thing -- some guys building something to a common theme ... Let's not get hung up on having a "Campaign" ...

Keep the number of campaigns/GB's fixed to a low number -- 3-6 at a time & no more ... schedule ruthlessly ... too many encourages too many people to sign up for too many & complete few ...

Keep the Campaign/GB's reasonably focused .. too broad means nothing, too narrow means less ...

One does not need enough campaigns to draw folks, one needs to keep enough diversity to encourage people to get outside their level of comfort ... It is not necessary to always have a 109 in every campaign, etc, etc ...

ARC does a good job of controlling "campaigns", FSM has/had no control, Armorama lost control ...

Greetings all;

Its after hours here in my office back in the corner of the Aeroscale hanagar #1. My desk lamp is a candle burning to the nub in an old tuna can. On the walls are maps and schedules for the coming year. Scheduling training classes and duty rosters ah the glory of paper pushing. Wait a second I have to sharpen my pencil again....this old Buck knife is the best thing my dad ever bought for me. I think my chair has about had it...well at least its better than that cabbage crate that was here when I first showed up. Too many splinters...

Checking my "to do" box I ran across this thread and with the voting for Air Campaign for 2007 subjects, I thought it might be a good idea to bring this up for a general re-read. My Batwoman has just deliverd my coffee and schnaps...and a plate full of munchies. Sandwiches, hershey bars, sweet grapes and oriole cookies. Wait a minute...she is wearing my best shirt and... Suddenly the night just got a bit happier.

Jan,

Milne Bay is on the South Eastern Peninsula of New Guinea, it would fall into the Pacific group that you have for Coral Sea, Guardalcanal, Soloman Islands, Rabaul.

Hope this helps.

Hi all!

Now we must find a way to vote... any suggestions? I thought of something similar to the MOM: 3 votes with choice n°1 = 3pts, choice n°2 = 2 pts and choice n°3 = 1 pts.
I also think we should start a voting thread once we are ready...

Hi all

I know we (I :-) ) set a deadline for tomorrow as a deadline... but work is so crazy at the moment, I'll have to trust to your good selves to declare when "done is done".

I'm a bit zonked, so I haven't waded through the thread so, basically - if it needs me to set up a Poll (does it?) - Jan, PM the list. Any Poll can have a maximum of 20 categories and no multiple votes. If we need to run a separate Poll for each category, so be it, but let's get a decision out ready for the New Year's first crop of Campaigns.

All the best

Hi again

Sorry for being so late - a bad case of work intervened...

Jan has PM-ed me the final listings, so I'll make a start on the Polls tonight. These will be to vote for the Campaigns for the first half of 2007. Around March next year, we'll organize a fresh ballot for the next batch, which can include runners-up from this round and, hopefully, a fresh crop of exciting new ideas to see us through to the end of next year.

Thank you to everyone for taking the time and trouble to develop your Campaign ideas!

All the best

Hi all!

Now we must find a way to vote... any suggestions? I thought of something similar to the MOM: 3 votes with choice n°1 = 3pts, choice n°2 = 2 pts and choice n°3 = 1 pts.
I also think we should start a voting thread once we are ready...

Capital Jean - Luc!!! Thats the ticket!

Hi all

Sorry - just spotted this... it's going to be straight Polls - one vote per category - I'm too tired to try to even contemplate other systems.

Sorry - autopilot man here!
