Hi all!
Finally I finished my Trumpeter Me262 build.
This kit had some serious fit problems so I totally resigned and let it sit on my bench for several months.
I had a hard time choosing a scheme too, there´s so many interesting variants on this type.
I decided for Rudi Sinner´s Green "1", and bought this decal sheel from Eagle-Cals, EC#95.
http://www.eagle-editions.com/decal95.htm
When I got this sheet I was ready to paint, but that Yellow "3" grew on me.
I did some research and found at least three different profiles of this aircraft!
But I decided for Yellow "3" anyway as I liked the scheme, the mix of markings and a fairly dense and simple mottle on the fuselage sides.
This was my very first attempt at a mottled scheme so I needed something simple.
To get a better "sit" of the aircraft, I shortend the main landing gear struts about 5mm.
I reinforced the struts with a 10mm steel pin (leftover from the Wildcat kit)
With this exception and new decals, the kit Is built OOB.
Please, let me present Yellow "3" from III/KG(J)54 to you;
Comments are welcomed as usual!
Cheers!
Stefan E

Wow!
Very nice build and paint scheme.
I know your problem with the paint scheme. I have seen a version of yellow 3 where the "mottling" on the tail fin is sprayed on and not hard edged. Anyway, what is the right version I do not know, but your hard edge version looks the best
I have this kit in my pile of kits to build in the start of 2007 so maybe you could outline your major fit problems and what I should look out for?

How hard was it doing the mottled scheme?
Hi David and Jesper!
Thanks, glad you liked It!
David;
That mottled scheme was much easier than I thought It would be!
I started with a complete coat of RLM 76 Light Blue.
Then I painted the wings and fuselage (top 1/3rd) with RLM83 Green.
After this I painted small spots along the sides, then i sprayed light(!) coats of RLM83 until they started to dissappear.
I have always been quite intimidated by those mottled schemes, but now I look forward to do a FW-190A!
I practiced a couple of times on a scrap model before I attempted any painting on the "real" model, I can recommend You do the same!
Jesper;
I tried to make the model as close as I could to the excellent pics on the sheet Eagle-Cals provided with the decals.
But It was a mix´n´match (read guess-work!) as there was no good pics on the tail or engine nacelles.
For a very good build review, look no further then here;

Good Luck with your 262!

Hi Stefan
That's a beautiful build! - and thanks for the heads-up on the landing-gear problem to ensure the correct sit. I reviewed the Eagle Cals sheet a while ago - did you use the decal for the tail mottle? The result is great!
All the best
Rowan

Hi Rowan and Carlos!
Yes, I used the tail mottle decals as it would have been a pain to mask!
I was a bit concerned about matching the decals with the RLM70 below the stabilizer, but It was a perfect match!
The Eagle Cal decals were a pure joy to use, among the best decals around out there!
I forgot to mention that I painted the model with WEM Colorcoats RLM76, RLM83 and RLM70.
All metal surfaces are AlcladII in several shades, Interior RLM66 and the RLM02 was painted with Humbrol colors (Hu67 resp. Hu78).
Thanks to you both, I´m happy you liked her!
Cheers!

Just wanted to say I like your model very much. It looks really good, especially the natural metal fronts of the engine nacelles. Again, great job. Russell
