Jesper and Hermon,
Thank you both. I was able to wipe away more of the white, which exposed more of the base color.
I have to tell you that I was nervous before I started spraying the white. The plane is in kind of an in between stage that I'm not happy with. I know that when I get a oil wash on it will reduce the "frosty" look and make it look better. At least I hope so! My next update will probably be the finished product on the mail "Down Low" thread.
The Eduard decals are by far the best I've used in my short time in this hobby. Very thin but strong, they setteled right into the panel lines with out any Micro Sol. They also slid off the paper after about five seconds in water. Really outstanding. I can't say enough good things about this kit other than the overly thick trailing edges everything has gone together wonderfully.
A seperate issue is I'm running out of disk space on the Kit Maker photo server. Is there another way to load more pics on with out deleting the ones already on there?
Thanks!
-Derek

There are only two ways that I know of to do this Derek. The first is to publish your pictures somewhere else on the internet, say on your wifes webpage mabye??.....and then transfer them as needed to what ever post you're making. I believe this is done much in the way as you would normally post a pic here by clicking properties, cut/paste it on a thread.
The second way is to get more gallery space by signing up as an "A GUARD" member. It's something like $4.00 every three months or so I believe. Unfortunatly, the A Guard sign up thingy is out of service right now and there is no telling when it'll be fixed. I myself am interested in joing just so I can get more gallery space and quit having to delete pics.

I presume you don't have a photobucket account yet?
http://photobucket.com/
They offer 1gb of storage for free accounts. I've been using that for many years now and I have 30mb of stuff there now, IIRC.

Thanks for the information about photobucket Eetu!
I had no idea it was that easy to get more photo gallery space.

Derek,
I hope you aren't upset about me posting a picture on your thread, but now that I have a photobucket account, I wanted to show you a couple of pic's of a Yak-1 I did last year with the whitewash over camo.
The base camo was Russian black and green done in enamels. The white wash was Tamiya acrylic flat white. I rubbed it off in certain places with a Q-tip, just as you have done.

Sweet!
That is the effect I'm shooting for. Thanks for posting.
What kit is it? I'm really developing a interest in Soviet planes and want to expand my collection.

Derek,
The kit is an Accurate Miniatures Yak-1 w/ski's in 1/48 scale. It's only around $20.00 and actually went together very well. It also includes wheels for anyone not wanting to use the ski option. As I remember it, there was very little sanding and filling involved in building it and the one thing that stands out in my mind was the beautiful canopy included. That thing was so clear and thin it was almost like a shrunken version of the real thing.

Behold!
I unleash my mighty, strong, dynamic, powerful, and a whole lot of other big words, P-39 onto the masses :-) The Motherland will fulfill it's destiny! With help from, and thanks to the Yankee capitalist pig-dogs at Bell Aircraft Co.
I posted a few pics and a description of the build on the "Down Low" thread. Let me know what you think. BTW, yes, that is a bomb rack, I just had a little problem with the paint for the bomb and was not about to let a stupid piece of plastic stop me from my rendezvous with glory! :-)
Also, if anyone can tell what the slogan say on the nose I will praise you publicly on this site. I know what they say, but want to make sure my translator is not lying to me!

Hello Derek
what a great model and diorama .. or is it a vignette :-) anyway .. I like it very much!
I also have a few Eduard P-39 in the stash .. one is 88 % finished .. I just cannot get the tail number right (hand painting ) ... I would like to do Bochkov's "white 12" that he belly landed in a winterly environment .... just like yours .... thanks for reminding me
best wishes
Steffen

Steffen,
Thank you very much for the fine compliment. Putting together a diorama like this one was easier than I thought it would be. I'm not happy with the dead grass. Working with that stuff is very time consuming, though I'm sure my lack of technique is to blame.
I would love to see your work on your P-39. It IS such an odd aircraft, and probably would have had a much better reputation if they had just put a super-charger on the thing. Many of the pilot reports I've read stated that it was an enjoyable plane to fly as long as you were below 15,000ft.

Hi Derek!
That's a very nice looking model! The base is simple but very effective. A nice background and this would make into a nice feature for Aeroscale!
The Cyrillic writting on the fuselage's side is very nice too! :-)8

Jean-Luc,
What is the best way to do a good background? Your photos of your latest projects look so cool, especially the 109. I have no problem re-shhoting the model, as it is now just sitting there being bored :-)

Congrats Derek!
The finished product is as great as I thought it would be. The white wash turned out beautifully, not too much or too little. I agree with Jean-Luc. Get yourself a piece of blue poster board paper for a back ground and do some more photos for an Aeroscale feature.
As a side note...... :-) ......is it me, or did this baby come from the factory with the control stick mounted backwards?
Second side note......
If my Russian serves me correctly, the slogan on the front of the fuselage says, "please don't shoot at me, I'm not all grown up yet" :-) :-)
also, your wife painted all of the "a" backwards and used capitol letters and small letters together.
Ok, just joking! Great job!

Thanks for pointing that out. You know, I have a habit of doing stuff like that. I put the gear on backward on my La-7 and now this...... I suppose it would be better if I said "I'm doing this to see how many of you are paying attention!" Yes, I think I will go with that.
As for re-shooting the pics. I would be honored to have a feature here. I still need to do a few things to the plane. I forgot to paint the marker lights, and put the aerial on too. Again, this requires a serious
Also, since no one has posted what the Cyrillic writing say I'll tell you. I should say "Safety First!" which was very important to the Red Air Force :-)
